I am very tempted to show the middle finger to APPLE and it's software developers

How the hell can the iSHEEP crowd tolerate this behaviour.

I clicked on a free book download in the Bookstore - Beatles Yellow Submarine
When I realized it wants to download about 300 meg ( 300 meg for an EPUB book ? WTF ! ) I tried to stop it

Fat chance - it cannot be done, you can pause it, but always come back
The download must finish before you can delete it

OR - GET THIS

"You have to contact iTunes support to get them to turn the download off"

Forget about pirating and spam mail - I think APPLE with all their users must be the biggest bandwidth waster on the NET

Good news, you'll probably only do this once. In future just check for things like "This book includes audio, video and other interactive materials." and "Size: 317 MB". Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ select the suitable support options, in this case you might have to add a brief description of your own... Send it of and the Apple guys will usually get back to you quite quickly. They'll need to remove it from your purchased/download queue.

Thanks for the heads up. Do they show you the size of the file before you download as they do with Apps?

Yep... When you've selected an app or book, just check the left hand side of the store window (under the "Download" or "Purchase" button), for books you'll see "Category", "Published Date", "Publisher", "Seller", "Size" and "Language". For apps there's "Category". "Updated", "Version", "Size" and "Seller".

Hello troll.

So you, I assume an intelligent IT user for many years, think this iTunes behaviour is logical and exceptable ?

Even when there are plenty irate users posts on this

I think the iSheep bit got to you

Could care less about the iTunes behaviour. But calling people iSheep is just inflammatory and unnecessary. It's trolling.

Been an Apple user and unapologetically so for years now so yeah, I much, much prefer iTunes but that's just this iSheep. Dude, as far as logical and acceptable behavior for an app goes, that Yellow Submarine page said 317 MB right there where you clicked Download... skaam-kwaad doesn't make the app bad.

Im so sorry I ever wasted money on subscriptions to magazines on the iPad. In theory it sounds great - but it doesn't work in practice.

Constantly restarts the download and any interruption causes the download to restart from some random point. I've paid for a year for a few magazines, but don't even bother getting thm. My first two magazines used 1.3GB data even though it was supposed to b 400MB.

*bleat*

I had a few things lined up for download but then cancelled them. When I charged my ipod those items would attempt a download but I stopped them and deleted them. After a few days with no problems, these downloads would start again and I would have to delete them again

Why don't they just disappear when I delete them, the stupid downloads?

*Baa*

Sell your Apple gear and buy Droids if u don't like the way iTunes works..

Why is that always the answer?
That and - use this work around?

I agree with you in one aspect though. Hopefully by many people doing this, it'll slow Apples sales even further and perhaps make them catch a wake up before they need to be bailed out, once again

No need for the iSheep bit when it's your error to begin with.
2 simple things listed in the iTunes terms of service.

iTunes store sales are final and don't buy with 1-Click.

Reset your warnings in your account and you will be asked next time if are you absolutely sure whether you want to buy the item.

That's not always the answer - but if you can't take the way iTunes works then why did u buy an iDevice?

Some of us don't know just how silly iTunes can be until its too late.

I used a Pinnacle Showcentre in the early 2000s along with the Pinnacle hardware - it was probably one of the first media type streamers.

Imagine my horror when almost a decade later, I learn iTunes cannot sync correctly with a directory. Its not DLNA either ... It doesn't have seperate music, movie and photo tabs ... And it can't multitask either.

I have to reload my library every weeks because tracks just don't import for whatever reason. This process takes many, many hours and I do it over night.

ITunes starts playing a track while importing - and you can't stop it while the pop up is visible! So you can do ZERO! You literally do it when you sleep and turn off the sound.

After 30 years of PCs, its almost unheard of when one can't cancel a download clicked in error. PCs have a backspace, a ctrl Z, an undo and even cancel. Except iTunes.

Just things one would expect

I'm just going on what he's saying - I try use it as little as possible, so I've never tried myself

The design of this is linked to iTunes assured download process i.e. they make sure you get what you have purchased; however since the introduction of the purchase feature with iCloud this behaviour is no longer required (should be removed).

Cut back on the iSheep bit if you want help... never good to mock those you seek advice from.
