Who wants to bet SA wont be on that map?

They cant replace google maps, if they cant give the same coverage.

There better be not a singular similarity in this app and Google Maps otherwise this can be locked up in a court case for years to come.
Sigh.. well seeing as Bing maps don't even provide proper coverage in SA I would say about ZERO % chance that Apple maps will cover us on street level. So the big question is, do they only roll it out in the regions that they do cover and leave the regions they don't with Google maps? Or do they screw us all?Who wants to bet SA wont be on that map?
I can see this in my mind already:
Apple patent maps, takes Google to court for coping their invention![]()
They just trying to prove a point, stupid Apples reinventing the wheel...
Wasnt the non-attribution issue just for the iPhoto maps that was rolled out a few months ago?Google apple+maps+openstreetmap. The app may be in house but the data is not, it was not attributed to the creators until very recently. Worse, the accuracy is suspect - one blogger noted that his (conforming) footpaths have been designated as roads when Apple used the data.
Been wondering exactly which data service is replacing Google as Apple's map provider? According to these leaked screenshots (shown above) from the iOS 6 developer beta running on an iPhone 4S, it appears to be TomTom. The company is no stranger to iOS, as its navigation app and car kit have been available on the iPhone since 2009. On an interesting note, the maps application specifically mentions "data from TomTom, others," which means there may be other suppliers that aren't getting called out by name. We'll keep you posted as we hear more what's going on behind-the-scenes.
Damn - and I just went and bought TomTom last week for an excursion into the depths of New Brighton.Ok so not so bad re covrage.
TomTom has independently confirmed to us that it indeed "has signed a global agreement with Apple for maps and related information."

TomTom also suply maps to Sygic: GPS Navigation that I use on my phone for navigation and have decent coverage.
Presumably Google maps will still be available via Safari, as it always has been?
