Apple Music

Yeah, there is a setting to use lower quality songs over 3G/LTE vs Wifi. I think it is switched on by default.

Disabled the 3G setting and only using offline mode with songs downloaded onto the device.

There is nothing wrong with Apple Music quality. Nor Spotify for that matter.

Tidal is better, but so it should be. Streaming lossless FLAC/ALAC is as damn near to CD transparent quality as you will get.

Are there some compression artefacts on AM ? Sure. But in most use cases, you should not hear them.

I am a classically trained musician with perfect pitch and some great gear (Shure IEM's, Monster Copper IEM's, Anthem DSP and receiver with B&W speakers) and the difference is moot if you're just out to enjoy your music with a vast unlimited library.

Still missing Spotify features and playlists in some areas, for others AM is just fine for the price. It feels very 1.0 but should improve over time.

Tidal is an excellent product, but streaming at those bitrates takes longer and is not as agile.

Yes, FLAC > AAC > OGG > MP3.

You can spectral analyse anything to death and show yourself where the frequency drop-offs are.

In the end, if you like, listen to it.

Im pretty sure its the iOS 9 beta on my iPhone thats giving me grief and also make sure to turn off all apples EQ and Sound Check.
Loaded all my Apple Music onto the iPad 3 iOS 8.4 and it sounds great, not as good as the tidal but decent enough offering.

So how many are going to subscribe to Apple Music when trial is done, I'm thinking about it seeing as the wife shares same iTunes account and currently receives same playlists etc as on my devices it might be worth it, finding new music to enjoy all the time.

I have not used the radio streaming features much , prefer to download (offline mode) and listen that way.

Bit of a schlep to have to re-downlaod on all devices, ideally would be nice to download onto MacBook and then copy to your associated devices.

I'll keep mine going, I believe it's the best available in SA officially. Apple music is great...iTunes not so much.

Well like I said a few posts back - I am a Windows user :D. Is there a significant difference between the OSX and Windows iTunes?

It's like a console game ported to PC, a bit sluggish, never really meant for the platform but need to satisfy a user base.

My gripes are not with regards to sluggishness but rather with poor navigation and lack of functionality.

Ah. :)

What are you struggling to navigate to/from, and what functionality is lacking?

Yes, the UX is a bit different to the standards used by Microsoft (like UWP apps) since it follows the Apple OSX functionality and basically just ported. Since I use OSX I can adapt easily.

Check my post on previous page :P

Functionality wise:

* Ability to cross sync devices when they are connected on the same network (maybe I just don't know how to do this ). For instance: Offline files from my laptop will sync to iphone when they are on the same wifi, without having to download them on my phone.
* Ability to control playback on different devices connected to the same network
* Spotify had apps you can install for things like lyrics etc
* Collaborative playlists
* Also miss the friends system from Spotify

Those aren't mission critical though, I'm hopeful they'll make improvements along the line :) The thing I love most about Apple Music is that new albums are available what seems to be immediately, where with Spotify you usually have to wait a few days.

Sounds like a tall order or high expectations, perhaps some of these are possible, perhaps they're in the pipeline. iTunes is obviously designed as a centralised library where you decide what goes to which Apple devices, and I don't think it can be faulted for this main purpose.

As far as navigation goes, this is on point:

I'm not ordering or expecting anything...you asked what I missed coming from another music player, and I merely listed it :p I'm sure they'll add functionality as the time goes on

Sure, I was saying that they seem a bit much given the purpose of the program, but I do hope they add what you'd like in future.

Hopefully you'll be running it on a Mac then, too. ;)

What will happen if you don't subscribe to Apple music after the trial but have offline music already downloaded to a laptop not connected to the internet?

Im assuming it'll look at the pc date or they have some feature enabled to prevent something like this?
