All it takes is for someone to swipe your phone and they can buy things. They probably don't have much of window before things get locked or cancelled but that doesn't mean they can't blow a few thousand rand.

You're forgetting the need for a fingerprint scan using the phone's fingerprint scanner.

In a room of 50 people, there are fairly reasonable odds that someone will be able to unlock your iPhone. It's one thing to use it to unlock your phone, it's a different matter to use it to buy something.

Last stat I saw had almost 50% of all thefts in the USA being cell phones.

I'd assume the following:

The iphone merely transmits the card details from it's app to the machine. Much like your credit card transfers details of your card number to the terminal.

I don't see apple charging for this, so the costs will be exactly the same as card machine models.

Yeh, there won't be any cost for the transaction. Visa and Mastercard don't allow per transaction costs for credit cards.
