Apple Pay unveiled

Apple unveiled a new mobile wallet on Tuesday aimed at allowing consumers to use iPhones linked to credit cards for more secure, convenient payments

Hopefully apple have the clout and marketing prowess to finally make this happen.

It should take off - atleast in the developed world.

Lmfao /in before hackerz, it's not apple's fault for not securing system, it's yours for using it.

^^^ That will happen the days someone's account gets compromised

All it takes is for someone to swipe your phone and they can buy things. They probably don't have much of window before things get locked or cancelled but that doesn't mean they can't blow a few thousand rand.

You're forgetting the need for a fingerprint scan using the phone's fingerprint scanner.

What would be interesting to me is who will be carrying the costs of this.
The person paying, the business from who you are buying, Visa/Mastercard or Apple?

The cost of? The transaction? Or the liability when something does go wrong?

I'd assume the following:

The iphone merely transmits the card details from it's app to the machine. Much like your credit card transfers details of your card number to the terminal.

I don't see apple charging for this, so the costs will be exactly the same as card machine models.

Yeh, there won't be any cost for the transaction. Visa and Mastercard don't allow per transaction costs for credit cards.
