Apple have cut orders for memory chips from Samsung, ahead of the reveal of the company’s next-generation iPhone

Samsung is one of the world's largest manufacturers of semiconductors so Apple does not have an overly large range of alternative options available to them. Besides, I think that this article may be a bit sensationalistic. It's the norm for apple to buy large quantities of stock before launching a new product and then ramping down on demand as the product debuts. It happened with previous iPhones as well.
