Apple research shows how it is losing iPhone users to Android

Internal company documents which were used in Apple's court battle with Epic Games in May have shown that Apple lost iPhone users over a number of quarters in 2019 and 2020.

Epic Games sued Apple over what it views as anti-competitive policies in the Apple App Store, specifically in the smartphone giant's restriction of purchasing methods outside of its own system, which prevents app developers from selling directly to users.

Apple in its arguments included data which it contends illustrated that consumers had a choice to move to other devices if they felt Apple's App Store policies were too strict.
 
Is this Apple users not buying the latest iPhone and retaining the old one or is it physically them switching to Android device?

Bit of both.. problem is post iPhone 6s the phone is good enough to last many years and I’d say you can easily get 5-6yrs easily on a phone.

Also excluding incremental camera & c/gpu updates.. I think the last major must have was ?

We currently actively using iPhone 6s Plus and 8 Plus.. no issues other than battery maybe though not sure on worth to replace on 6s as it’s post support end of the year. Just looking at our use case.. that’s a 2yr upgrade cycle now extended to 6-7yr.. that will cost any company.

That being said they’ve embarked on a services strategy which is where the competition of otp players will hurt.

Yup - still happy with my 6s and see no reason to drop R20 000 on a new phone.
 
Well, my wife, who only used a Blackberry before going to Apple, is seriously considering Android. The main reason is that her Apple Watch 3 doesn't even last until 4pm when she usually exercises. Meaning it is unfit for the reason she bought it 2 years ago.
Of course they don't replace batteries, but they will give her R1000 if she trades it in for a new R9 000 Apple Watch....

Compare that to my 2.5 day Galaxy Watch.

She really wants to move to Android, but since iOS is all she knows, I'm not sure she'll like it. Guess we will have to do a trial run and see how she likes it.

Compare that the Huwawei Watch Fit of 7+ day battery my wife moved to. Insane the battery life on that thing, has all the fitness bells and whistles.

You can get a phone for 1/5th, a better phone it wont be.
As much as a dislike many things about Apple, they will not release a product for sale that doesnt perform at an "Apple" level.

Every flagship Android phone I have ever owned turns into a dog after a year or two, they just get slow and buggy. iPhones on the other hand work perfectly until Apple kills them off with planned obsolescence.

I had the same with my wife a while ago, she hated the Android phone. Its all mental because Android and iOS are every bit as good as each other, but it's still a battle.
I got my wife a Garmin watch instead, it still does all of the smart notifications, looks better and lasts over a week on a single charge. Oh and you dont need to set it to waterproof mode before taking a shower!!

Will have more RAM, bigger screen etc.

No, you can't. The iPhone SE 64GB model which carries a lot of simialr specs to the 11 is R8999 at the iStore.

Show me a better phone for R1,800.

In fact, show me a better phone for R8999.

My wife moved from Apple to a Samsung and absolutely hated it. She never gave it much of a chance though and moaned a lot before moving back to Apple at the first opportunity.

My sons Huawei GT2 watch is really nice though. Great screen, functionality and battery life. He's got it paired with a Redmi 9S and that's a decent set up for less than the price of a new Apple watch if she can adjust. Mind you, I traded my series 3 watch for an SE earlier this year and the battery life lasts 2 days easy now. Also not as pricy as the 6 and just as functional.

Yep. There are some people you can never convince to convert. My sister is one of them. Apple or go home.

More RAM doesnt make a faster phone, optimization does and Android hardware is never as well optimized as Apple.
The bigger screen would be nice though.
Im not an Apple fanboy by any means, so Im not trying to defend them, but their optimization is as good as it gets.
