Im not sure what it is these days, but it was longer than Android support previously. I had my iPhone 6 for at least 3.5 years before I was offered a deal I couldnt refuse for it.
Im pretty sure it was used for a while after that still, but I think there are no longer updates available for it.
No doubt Apple will want to start making that time shorter, the recent economic climates have shown them that people like to hold on to their devices for longer than they would like.

Sure it does. Apps and websites don't need to be reloaded every so often and you can run apps side by side etc. Not to mention more battery life.

Would you really? If someone offered you a choice of either you are saying you wouldnt take the iPhone?
I doubt I will replace my current iPhone X with another iPhone, I just wish we could get the good Xiaomi and Oneplus devices on contract in SA.

If your iPhone X is in good condition I'm sure you could sell it and buy a OP cash?

Work offered a few times,I declined the iPhone repeatedly. Then again they also offered Samsungs which are about just as much of a ripoff
I'm on a Poco X3 currently,if it blows up i'll have enough budget to buy 4+ more of them

Unfortunately the reason Im looking at a new phone is because I dropped the X and cracked the screen. Apple repair costs are no joke and Im not willing to spend anywhere near the amount an official replacement costs.
Sure I could get a generic, but we did that with my wife's iPhone 8 when she dropped it and the phone was terrible after that.

True dat. Got a generic screen on my wife’s X and it wouldn’t work with a tempered glass protector after that.

Wife’s 11 is also cracked but she doesn’t seem to mind so I reckon she’ll ride it out for another year or two.

As much as a dislike many things about Apple, they will not release a product for sale that doesnt perform at an "Apple" level.

Every flagship Android phone I have ever owned turns into a dog after a year or two, they just get slow and buggy. iPhones on the other hand work perfectly until Apple kills them off with planned obsolescence.

I have to disagree with that last part. I had an S7 for about 3 years before it got stolen, and it was still an amazing phone and as fast as when I first got it. I tested that waterproof (and mud proof) feature quite often and thoroughly, and it held up great.

My S10e, now almost 2 years old, still gets almost 2 days on a charge vs my wife's equally old XR which gets almost a day. My S10e is also just as fast as when I got it.

I think I also used my old S2 for 3 years before upgrading. That probably got a bit long in the tooth by then.

Better is probably subjective, and this will almost certainly have a worse CPU but looks like a better complete package to me:

Jeez. The battery on my 23 year old wristwatch lasts 2 - 3 years. I'm fit and don't need a watch to help me stay fit.

I'll take my IR enabled,headphone-jacked,NFC enabled,120hz display,dual-sim phone with huge battery capacity that uses USB-C for charging for 1/4th the price thanks

If I wanted a restrictive selfbricking status-symbol i'd get my head read
 
I've been thinking about going to iPhone from Android.

I think Android phones have the advantage of choice. There are so many of them that you can pick and choose what features you want and how much you want to spend. I generally don't want to spend a lot on a phone.

But, I'm becoming increasingly uncomfortable with Google's advertising based business model. I don't want my personal data harvested. I don't want to be the product.

The nice thing about Apple is that they don't make much money from advertising.

I'll think about it. My next work computer is a MacBook. I'm starting a new job soon, and my computer will be a MacBook. I have no choice in the matter - they will not provide me with a Windows PC.

I stopped at the S5 with Samsung, my S3 was a champ, but man that S5 was a horrible phone, so many issues that I ended up romming it and that brought all kinds of other issues.
