Apple software and retail execs set to depart

Good move. Those guys were a major cause of divisiveness in Apple. Putting Ive in charge of UI design can only be a good thing.

A little too late. Cook should leave as well. Apple now have a choice to make and that is to either maintain market share or give up profits - they can't have both anymore.

How is it possible that you can post something idiotic on almost every Apple related thread? You need to get in touch with reality.

On topic, Forstall was a polarizing figure but his contribution to Apple cannot be overstated. I'm sure Federighi is up for the job though.

Mansfield's new position is the most interesting turn of events to me though.

Tim Cook is doing an exceptional job and as usual you're way off the mark.

True, his early contributions most certainly helped with the "reinvention/rebirth" of Apple. However, he is also credited with the push for more skeuomorphism (though no one person has actually stepped forward and taken the....err...blame for this), along with the slow evolution of Siri. I don't deny that some aspects of skeuomorphism can be attractive, but too much also ruins it ultimately. I'm also one of those people who loves Siri, uses it regularly (even with the limits of what it can do in South Africa), and sees a lot of potential with it - I'm just not sure he was driving the development aggressively enough, which is possibly why the two original founders of the software company behind Siri left this year.

“These changes show that Tim Cook is stamping his authority on the business,” Ben Wood, analyst with CCS Insight, said. “Perhaps disappointed with the Maps issues, Forstall became the scapegoat.”

So he was thrown under the bus by Cook?

I highly doubt Forstall's departure was directly related to maps. Most of these guys who call themselves analysts are actually clueless when it comes to Apple.

It doesn't seem that way, the article on Macrumors, mentions a variety of factors from both John Gruber and Adam Lashinsky.

At the end of the day his contribution was great, but skeuomorphic design was leading to contradiction in design philosophy. The exterior of the devices becomes simpler with each release yet the software becomes more cluttered with design frill.

If your are blind to apples current problems, then my posts would seem idiotic to you.
All the excuses pofferd by apple as to why they are not meeting their sales objectives are the most idiotic things I have read in my life. I'm just trying to be a beacon of sanity here - and it seems everything I say is comming up roses (If you bother to read what I said in previous threads).

Forstall failed to execute on two major counts: Maps and Siri. He refused to apologize for Maps and Tim Cook had to sign the letter of apology. He split the board badly. He supported skeuomorphic design which was holding iOS and OSX back quite badly. He really needed to leave. The other guy was the one who fired like 1000 people at Apple Store as a cost saving measure. Also not well received internally. Tim Cook is making tough choices and putting Ive in charge of UI is going to be awesome.

CCS Insight don't appear any different to other analysts - their top predictions for 2012. The fact that Forstall is only leaving in 2013, and serving as advisor to Cook until then, also suggest it was a mutually agreed departure. Apple has previously shown they're not keen on having people stick around if they're actually fired - and based on that you can interpret Browett's departure however you want to.

Memeburn suggests Forstall was fired, but it just seems like speculation on their part.

Apple hasn't missed any of their estimates yet and continue to have strong growth in all their key product lines.

I wish we all had Apple's problems.

You claiming to be a beacon of sanity is probably the funniest thing I've read in ages.

Yes, he is a remarkable leader who should shoulder the blame for the iflop5 fiasco. I just love the way he is choosing to rectify the issue. As usual your comment is useless.

They are missing analyst targets; not their own. They made $41bil in the past year putting them from around $80 bil to $121bil in a year alone, making them the world's largest hedge fund. If you consider that a miss, it's still destroying any other company in the world.

Please post a link where apple have met their expectations for at least the last 2 finacials. They were expecting to have the share price @ $1000 by the end of the year but it's not going to happen. I also see a huge knock for them this xmas with the introduction of the new Nexus line by Google.

Unfortunately Apple's investor site seems to be down at the moment but here are news articles from around the time:

http://www.macrumors.com/2012/07/24...-8-8-billion-profit-on-35-billion-in-revenue/
http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2012/10...idance-miss-the-streets-lowered-expectations/

I would hoped you would have looked at the facts before opining though.

Who was expecting that?

So commit then and give some numbers of how you see it affecting Apple's results.

I have never disputed that they are making bucketloads of money NOW. The problem I am trying to illustrate here is that their profits are dwindling and they have no turnaround strategy (viable product to beat the opposition with). Currently all they are doing is making stupid excuses (production costs of new devices, shortages, people waiting for ipad mini etc...), and re-organising - when the real problem is that they are not selling as they used to. In the last 2 months they have lost 106 billion dollars in value (share price), and it is not stopping...

To put it into perspective - the last few years apple has more than doubled its profits every year. This year only 56% while Samsung has achieved 128%.

If you care to read anything the analysts have written to try and prop up the share price with speculation, you will see that they are running out of ideas. If this xmas is not a good one for apple, investors are going to start losing faith big time.

So as I see it, apple can drop their prices accross the board to stimulate sales, or hope that their large profit margin on slowing sales will carry them. The latter has not been working all that well.
