I have never disputed that they are making bucketloads of money NOW. The problem I am trying to illustrate here is that their profits are dwindling and they have no turnaround strategy (viable product to beat the opposition with). Currently all they are doing is making stupid excuses (production costs of new devices, shortages, people waiting for ipad mini etc...), and re-organising - when the real problem is that they are not selling as they used to. In the last 2 months they have lost 106 billion dollars in value (share price), and it is not stopping...
To put it into perspective - the last few years apple has more than doubled its profits every year. This year only 56% while Samsung has achieved 128%.
If you care to read anything the analysts have written to try and prop up the share price with speculation, you will see that they are running out of ideas. If this xmas is not a good one for apple, investors are going to start losing faith big time.
So as I see it, apple can drop their prices accross the board to stimulate sales, or hope that their large profit margin on slowing sales will carry them. The latter has not been working all that well.
