Apple sued over lost data

It would be cheaper for Apple to use an expensive drive recovery service, than go to court over the matter. Though I can't see this even getting anywhere close or Apple remotely entertaining this guy.

Cheaper for this case, maybe. But what about the next 10 or 20 or 100 similar cases? Sometimes it's cheaper to go to court over something like this. After all, they may just throw the case out quickly, making it cheap.

Well if it stops turning on it is broken and should be repaired or replaced.
Time Capsule is an access point with a HDD in. If his data was worth $25000 he should have bought a NAS device. But then hey the NAS device could also fail and he would be suing the NAS guys..... Nothing is 100% secure for your data and I am sure he will learn his lesson.

Not! I'm actually anti-apple. Just felt like teasing the opposition.

Well when they say "It Just Work" (sic), I'm sure there's a hidden disclaimer that says 'I don't believe it's indestructible' :)

I'm think they got that bit, it's the 'You owe me money because I didn't bother to check that my backup device was faulty' that everyone is sticking on :)

It would likely be more expensive in the long run. There are principles at stake here and all manufacturers will be indebted to Apple for standing their ground... in fact, so will us consumers I reckon. Its nonsense like this that threatens innovation.
