Apple tests next-generation M2 chips

Basically, I don't fall for :

You have the best / fastest / clearest / most advanced phone in the world.

I can look and say 'oh, that's great - not as good as what is out there, but great nevertheless'

You lack the ability

Considering a vast portion of the advantage of the iPhone and Apple as a whole is tied up in the ecosystem, which you don’t understand for not having used the other products he does have a solid point.

Ah - the ecosystem

That typically comes up all the time. I read an article the other day about how few people actually have 3 or more Apple devices and I'm starting to think it may be true.

I think with 200m+ phones sold and multiples LESS of everything else, there's a high chance that someone is just using 1 device and claiming the 'ecosystem' is great. There are going to be outliers with multiple Apple products, but the vast majority don't.

Anyhow - I think I'm pretty up to speed on what the iPhone can and can't do. I'll comment because everything (aside from the subjective) can be proved. I don't mention any other products because I don't know enough about them - but iPhone I feel I do. That's why I'm curious why I'm 'always wrong'?

I'm looking at an iPhone as my next phone - but I'm under no illusion as to its limits and flaws. People need to understand an iPhone doesn't appeal to everyone.

If I wanted a high resolution, bright screen that records 8k video and decent optical zoom, the iPhone meets none of those criteria

Typically what happens with an iPhone is people align their needs to whatever TBD iPhone has at the time - no more.

The original iPhone lacked 3G but miraculously, no iPhone users needed it at the time. The same with LTE. And 5G. And ultrawide lenses. And low light. And macro. And dual band WiFi. And water resistant. And OLED screens. And. And. And. And.

But with all this said, I really just came here to ask a question on this thread. Not to fight or argue. I didn't attack anyone - it's one of the Apple folk that once again, couldn't take the fact that something out there was a better device

There have always been phones that beat the iPhone in one or more areas, but never one that was as good an all-rounder. For example, there are 8k camera phones that have the iPhone cameras beat in resolution but are craptastic in every other measure of camera quality. Samsung had OLED displays long long before Apple did, but their performance was so primitive they were losing to LCD panels. Even when Apple started using Samsung OLED panels once they reached Apple’s standards, Samsung’s OLED panels were performing better on iPhone than Samsung’s own phones because Apple took the time to tune every bit of performance they could - and you can see evidence of that in independent tests.

I could go on and on, but your skull is coated in a fact-phobic paint so I doubt any of it would get through.

Certainly there are people who only have the one device and they’ll also see similar disadvantages as you often do.

What I am illustrating is that many of the limits/flaws go away when you are using multiple Apple devices and therefore isn’t of any concern to someone in the ecosystem.

Something like Airdrop comes to mind. Similarly Airplay or iCloud relates services.

Then completely unique things like how Fitness+ integrates with the Watch during workouts.

Licensing across devices end to end as everything works on everything.

I’m sure I could think of plenty more in time.

In your shoes I would recommend not buying an iPhone and instead something like an iPad Air or MacBook Air if you really wanted to expose yourself.

In your opinion, which Apple gave you permission to have .

I'm unsure what you cannot grasp ? We all have our own values ?
Some people want an all rounder with a better display, fast charging, brighter screen, optical zoom ?

For example, there are 8k camera phones that have the iPhone cameras beat in resolution but are craptastic in every other measure of camera quality.

As above, because you value what Apple tells you to value.

Android phones consistently trump Apple in many categories - but you cherry pick and ignore. Did you know that Apple have not an Android beating camera (in the real world - not Appleland) in years and years and years ?

Samsung had OLED displays long long before Apple did, but their performance was so primitive
... because they were a decade before ?

That's how consumer electronics work - they get better generation after generation. Like my like, no one sees what you see though (as per your independent tests)
Apple started using Samsung OLED panels once they reached Apple’s standards
When they were cheap enough, you mean. They use old (cheaper) technology
and you can see evidence of that in independent tests.

You mean like this ?

The OLED display on the Samsung Galaxy S9 is the best smartphone display on the market, according to lab analysis by DisplayMate

And the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra literally outshines the competition both in the real world and in our labs.

In every other regard, the Galaxy S22 display has the edge. Our lab testing showed it delivered more of the DCI-P3 color gamut at 79.3% vs. 78.1%

I could go on and on, but your skull is coated in a fact-phobic paint so I doubt any of it would get through.

Please do go on ... !

What you need to do is :

a) Form your own opinion . Don't let Apple tell you what to like and what not to like
b) Don't believe their marketing - do some research yourself
c) Understand that some people need new & cutting edge.
d) Understand that people have different needs

When I went abroad a few years ago, I needed a phone with a great camera and something that had a great battery to last while I walked around. I bought a phone with a better camera on the iPhone of the time in every respect, and had low light / ultrawide / low light / macro / manual settings which the iPhone lacked . The battery was the best on any phone to date - and I could charge faster both wired & wireless. It made the iPhone of the time look like a toy.

In fairness, the iPhone has caught up and it's nearing the charging speed my my old (old old old) phone and it's finally matched the wireless side - bravo Apple for progress ! Camera features have also started trickling down and I think Apple have given you permission to like /use them now ?

There is little need for opinions when you have scientific metrics, @Dolby

I’m glad you found Display Mate, as an example of this. You linked to an article praising a Samsung phone display, did you happen to read any of their iPhone reviews? Like the iPhone 12 Pro Max review, which they said was the best performing display they’ve ever tested, setting multiple records? Who do you think manufactured that display? Own goal, Dobby.

Is Apple telling Display Mate what to value? Also is there a microchip in the vaccines?

Yeah my Lumia had a better camera for a while, loved the night time photo quality. Also it used an OS with too few apps.

Yeah I had fast charging before, the tech back then meant that the battery deteriorated faster and needed to be replaced sooner. Things have improved and what do you know, Apple decides it’s time to implement it.

Also Dolby, please mention specific phones so I have something to target, stop hiding behind vague mentions of a mythic pixie phone.

I used a Mate 20 Pro which wiped the floor clean with the iPhone at the time .

But most the Apple replies were :

I never use Ultrawide / low light anyway !
I'm always near a charger - I don't need a better battery !
Faster charging ruins your battery - Apple knows !
I have the Apple ecosystem !
Macro? For what!

And then ...

The market wasn't ready for ultrawide back then but bow they we have it, they are !
The iPhone 13 Pro Max has the best battery by miles - I love it! 3 days at a push! Apple called it !
Things improved and Faster Charging is valid now - perfectly great timing when Apple launched it !
I love the new macro mode ! Apple tweaked and only then released it - now it a great macro!

You don't care about metrics ?
Do you have an example ?

Yes !

They called it again !

Marvelous company that !
Search these very forums for reports of battery issues like swelling / exploding Samsung batteries.

Funny, extremely rare occurrence on iPhone.

Yeah so? You’d expect the *manufacturer* of the display to occasionally come out tops. My point is that Apple uses the same panel technology, manufactured by Samsung themselves, who should have the edge … and manages to beat them. Trading places shouldn’t be a thing.

I had a HUAWEI MATE 20 PRO

They were also safety tested by TUV Rheinland, if I recall. It was the best battery phone in every single regard. It lasted longer than anything else. I charged faster than anything else. It had a safety rated and no issues.

BTW - do you not feel a bit naive saying 'Apple launched at the precise correct time' because of {insert silly reason here}?

Also - despite the brainwashing - are you able to identify something that is weaker on an iPhone? Just curious if you know how to do that anymore.

They didn't beat them according to the results I posted? The S9 and S22 are better - unless you're just cherry picking 'your' years again?

Apple launched when you were done beta testing. Yes you had it first. Yes you had the camera perks sooner too - now go look at the independent testing on smartphone cameras. Guess what?

I just admitted that they trade places, sometimes Samsung wins?
