This is something I've been wondering about. Is there any clarity on whether Snow Leopard will require Leopard to be installed first? Or if you want to do a clean install will you need the box set?

Previously the upgrade and the full install were the same.

All previous major OS upgrades were the full version, however, this time it's just an upgrade. If you want to do a clean install then you do need Leopard also...

Snow Leopard Up-to-Date Program.
If you purchased a qualifying Mac on or after June 8, 2009, that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you can upgrade for $9.95.

Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.
If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard, just purchase Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and follow the simple installation instructions.

Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, purchase the Mac Box Set, which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard; iLife ’09, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork ’09, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

I read that but felt is was still a bit ambiguous as the process was the same for Tiger -> Leopard but you could also do a clean Leopard install with the same disc. Perhaps I am just being slow though as most people are mentioning it as just an upgrade disc, along with Apple punting the box set for Tiger users.

If that is the case though, I will be quite surprised.

Try Amazon.com, or better still find a friend or relative that lives there

My father lives in the US so I'll be getting him to send on in the mail.

Nope Amazon.com wont ship Apple products (including Snow Leopoard) to an SA address.

Friend / relative is an alternative unless somebody knows of a reliable online store that will ship to SA.

I dont recall Apple ever selling a dedicated Tiger to Leopard upgrade.

I'm sure like any upgrade though you'll be offered the option of a clean install once it has verified you have leopard on your hdd.

This store is always ridiculously expensive. Who would ever buy something from them?!?

They're not always expensive, they were selling SSD drives for dirt cheap not so long ago.

But I won't buy OSX at that price from them though.

Sorry. I'm not having much luck finding one.

I've just ordered from MacMall.com using a Paypal account. Total cost including shipping was $30!

I still think at some point during the order process they are going to catch on and cancel it. Will let you guys know if/when I get a shipping confirmation.

Apple Snow Leopard to include anti virus?

I love the authors sarcasm:
The Mac Security Blog has a screenshot from a dialogue box which is believed to show Snow Leopard intercepting some kind of malware, specifically a Trojan downloaded via the Safari browser. Yes, a virus, on a Mac and built-in security software intercepting it. Apologies if that's just made you splutter your tea all over your stylish Mac keyboard.

Anyway great move by Apple if it's true, I believe because you *think* your OS is more secure you are more vulnerable, because you are more trusting...

There is a big difference between the large number of malware and viruses that PC users suffer with everyday and the fact that virtually no-one using a mac in the last few years has ever had a virus.
Macs are not relatively safer from viruses than PCs, they are safer.
The PC I use at work gets virus/malware infections around twice a month, but I have never had a problem with my macs.

If it makes you feel any better I run Clam on my macs just to prevent the embarrassment of transferring viruses to other peoples PCs via a memory stick.

They've caught on, and have let me know via email that they have cancelled my order.
Core's pricing looks better than expected though - R329.
