Does anyone know where one can buy Apple TV 2? I had 2 in the house and both were stolen a during break in. I used it for Netflix and XBMC.

Yes I saw that, but Apple TV 3 would be useless as there is no working jailbreak for it meaning it cannot run XBMC etc. It has to be ATV2

Isn't a raspberry pi cheaper ? You can download images for xmbc for it.

Yes it is cheaper, but I do not think there is a native Netflix app available for Linux.

I think it may also be slower and less responsive .

What about the Google Play?

Plex connect is not the best but it works.

Netflix works on Ubuntu via the Chrome browser. That's the only officially supported method that i'm aware of. No actual app.

I think the plugin to play silverlight on linux is called pipeline. It is a bit of a waste to run a full blown OS just to use it as a media player. The other issue with not using a native netflix app, is that one will need to use an app like Hola to bypass the country restrictions for netflix. With the netflix app it was just a matter of changing a dns setting.

Interesting but not suitable as it cannot be used to run a Netflix app. In order to watch Netflix, one have to purchase more software that needs to run on a PC which will allow the use of Netflix. The Apple TV 2 is able to run XBMC / Kodi and the Netflix app with much effort. Another good option seems to be Google Nexus Player, but they cost about 2K

I always thought I would miss xbmc when I got a Roku and was forced to adopt plex but never did.
