Apple TV buffering

FYI, since I made this change, buffering has been much, much better for me (ISP - Mind the Speed). Apple TV is now usable again. Could be coincidence, of course, who knows what else may have changed.

Akamai has also removed AppleTV from Optinet/Mweb clusters due to complaints of poor streaming quality. They now serve this traffic over IXP if an ISP doesn't have an On-net cache.

@AfriNatic I use NextDNS with EDNS enabled, however vod-ap3-aoc.tv.apple.com resolves to

Name: a1936.dscw11.akamai.net
Address: 197.80.131.202
Name: a1936.dscw11.akamai.net
Address: 197.80.131.218

Should we make static entries for your apple cache, or do you redirect this?

Setting static entries will work but I do not recommend it as the Akamai caches are a cluster of machines that work in a load-balanced way. Setting static entries will also cause an issue if that machine goes down.

Oh well, looks like I spoke to soon. Back to unusable. Predicted 51 minutes to start watching!

We had to have Akamai remove Mweb/Optinet caches from our mapping as they are simply too unreliable and slow.

Everything is installed but not online yet. The shipment was short 4 x QSFP modules. Apple is sending replacements. I was hoping to have it online and serving traffic already.

Haha no.
Any ETA from Apple on the missing QSFP modules?

Would @PBCool users be using the Mweb/Optinet caches or other ones? I find my Apple TV streaming at home to be spotty and it struggles sometimes on a 1.5Gbit line, but at office on a slower 200 line it’s fine.

Apple peers locally, I'm not even certain if any Apple caches are live locally as yet to be honest. The performance depends on Apples transit, and possible packet loss.

1.5Gbit? What FNO?
