Apple Watch thread

Thanks - funny enough as I did that I was prompted to type using my iPhone keyboard which seems kind of redundant to me.

Saw that too, not sure what you’d be wanting to type on your watch, from your phone, maybe app search I guess…

Exactly I mean if it was a message or something wouldn't you just send it from your phone?

Might be useful for entering a [complex] password?

Where would be the best to get an apple watch on contract? Phone contract is finishing next month, but I would like to rather get an apple watch and keep the phone on pre paid.

Looking for apple watch 7/8, wifi and cellular

Can you even buy watches on contract?

Doubt you get contracts on smart watches alone. I’ve seen iPhone contracts where you pay an additional amount for a watch as an add-on to the contract though. Check with iStore, Digicape or Cellucity

Come to think of it, there’s be no reason to offer one on contract as all our network providers don’t issue stand alone sims for watches, you can only get an eSIM for a watch attached to an existing contract line for a monthly fee of R25.

Seems like low power mode on the Apple Watch has improved after the 9.5.1 update. I went running \ streaming music \ using cellular on my Series 7 this morning, and had 45% battery remaining when I got back home. I figured rather than charge the watch again, I'd just test out battery saver and see how it does. It was about 10:15am when I enabled it, and my watch has used only 6% battery since then as it is now at 39% as I type this. I have to say I'm quite impressed. Previously it did help to use battery saver to extend the AW battery slightly, but not as significantly as it has done today.

Tried it again and still the same for me. It does nothing.

Tried it myself and really didn't notice any difference. Probably because after reading what the mode does there is little difference between that and how my watch is normally set up. I've already got always on display set to off and that is the biggest battery saver. I don't have an esim either.

ESIM would be off if your near a known Wi-Fi or your phone anyway.

There you go then - my phone is always nearby because I can't load an esim.

According to Apple, LPM also disables
  • Always On display
  • Heart rate notifications for irregular rhythm, high heart rate, and low heart rate
  • Background heart rate measurements
  • Background blood oxygen measurements
  • Start workout reminder
  • Wi-Fi and cellular connections
  • Incoming phone calls and notifications when not connected to an iPhone
I'd already determined Always On is a battery killer and disabling the others through LPM didn't seem to achieve much.
