Apple's iPad mini event - 23/10/2012

That will cost us roughly R3.5k when it launches locally.

EDIT: Isn't that more or less how much a Nexus 7 costs locally? 16gb wifi?

Try R4.5k if you're LUCKY...

The Nexus is $199 and its R3k - R3.5k locally.

K so the iNote is just a tad more than what I was willing to pay.

Nexus 7 it is, its got a better display anyway and I am just going to use this thing as a reader...

The ipad 2 is $399 and sells for R4199 in SA. The dodgy SA Nexus 7 pricing means the price difference between the nexus 7 and the ipad mini will be minor.

But ja, $250 or $299 would have been far better.

Thats bloody expensive for the tablet.. considering the Nexus 7 is $199 and its fekoff good.
I beg to differ. The build quality if the nexus is awful. The glass on mine is already seperating from the screen after only a matter of weeks.

You know i don't really have a problem paying $329 for the ipad mini, what i have a problem with is the extra 25% you have to add to get LTE. The mini will require LTE because it's portable.

Eish, way too much cash.

Ok build quality I can't comment on, I've only played on one for a few minutes.... but the tablet itself is pretty damn good.

Really? How are you finding it?

The 16GB Nexus 7 has been replaced by a 32GB Nexus 7 at the same price (ie USD250).

You using it to solve systems of simultaneous non-linear equations ? I also found it a bit slow for that :D
No, in fact I would have been satisfied with first gen iPad performance.

UK Apple store prices:

iPad mini 16GB + wifi = £269 (+-R3760)

iPad mini 16GB + wifi + cellular = £369 (+-R5160)

Just can't see myself paying that much for a mini
If it weren't for the rand depreciating by 10% to the $ in the past few months I reckon they would be priced at R3,299 which is mighty tempting

Well, I haven't found it to be slow, even compared to an iPad 3.

After all, it has a quad core CPU, compared to the dual core CPU in the iPad 3.

But granted, the number of cores does not always determine speed.

What were you trying to do that makes you so negative about the performance ?

Edit : Hmmm, I see that the 16GB model has a performance problem when the available memory drops below 3GB, apparently this does not happen with the 8GB model, and probably will not happen with the 32GB model. I will look into this and see if there is a solution - maybe it has been fixed with the 4.1.2 revision ?
