Hi

I never see any topics about AppleTV on here. Is there a any reason for that?

Does anyone have an AppleTV and are you happy with it?
 
If they had support for XBMC without jailbreak or atleast have support for XBMC on the new AppleTV3 with jailbreak I'd be willing to bet a lot more people would buy and use them. For now, they are pretty much useless in south africa. Thats my opinion.
 
True: i only want it (atv2 ) for xbmc. otherwise i am happy with my roku 3

I got myself the Midnight G-Box 2 with XBMC, its not the best on the market, but it works a treat and I must say if it werent for HD Rugby on DSTV, my DSTV would be gone in a second. I love the freedom of watching what I want, when I want.

I have one... used to use it for netflix and hulu but I stopped my subs with them now I use it mainly to airplay photos and videos... and to stream my downloads from my PC via the iPad or my phone and the air video app. Other guys I know at work use it with iTunes and buy all their movies/series.. I'm not that rich.
 
XBMC is way more flexible and customizable that ATV. Also, there is way more apps/add ons for XBMC. And there is A LOT of content available on XBMC paid /free.
 
Hmm, I ordered an AppleTV by recommendation from a friend who has one and it looked good.

He uses it for IPTV (Netflix and some other channels) and to airplay from his iPhone and iPad (both of which I do not have :P)

Thinking it was a mistake haha.

Oh well.

Did you get the ATV2 or 3?
 
If you get the ATV2 then you are in luck, cause it can be jailbroken and XBMC loaded on it. Then you have the ultimate solution.

But I suspect it is going to be the ATV3. Bit screwed there, cause you will only be able to use the official channels like HULU and NetFlix, and then you need a VPN service to use it. Youtube I think is also on there, and there are some nice documentaries and odd series' on there, but not nearly as much as sites like PrimeWire, ICEFilms and Project FreeTV. Also XMBC now has the YIFY channel wich is truly the best online Movie streaming site. His HD 720 rips usually go between 700 and 900mb, which is flippin awesome for us bandwidth crippled South Africans.
 
There are ways of getting plex on the ATV3 but the last time I looked it was a mission. You end up watching it through the Trailers menu if I recall correctly.
 
I wouldn't say appletv is useless. It has netflix, hulu, crackle, hbo go, abc, crunchyroll, A&E, history, PBS, Lifetime, ESPN, ACC sports just to name a few. It's easier to setup then roku with unotelly. Itunes also has the best range of media compared to most i've seen including VUDU and amazon. The problem is it's quite expensive. You can also airplay any content from piracy sites like yify or 1channel and you can also hack plexconnect on it. If I had to choose I would obviously go roku but it's such a mission to get it sometimes. All in all people just hate the atv3 because it's apple but it is in my opinion the next best thing to a roku.

Just an update. Got my AppleTV (Finally) and I've got Hulu+ working on it just fine :)

You can't really compare the two - it's like Toyota and Ferrari . They both go from A to B but very as very different experience d

ATV can do the job, but it is very basic
