Appliances to help you save power

This guy MAZOLA MOLEFE needs to do a bit more homework before he writes these columns for the newspapers.
 
Has anyone had any power cuts in the last two weeks? Did someone forget to man the switch at Eskom? Very fishy.

Why do the journo's keep trying to tell us that we can save electricity by using an inverter/UPS? There is a fundamental flaw with that: The energy to charge the batteries has to come from somewhere and usually this is from the Eskom grid. Using a UPS/inverter is actually less efficient than using the power directly since energy is lost in the conversion processes.
 
A gas cooker also saves electricity but has not been declared all that safe. This is due to the gas-related deaths in squatter camps.

Exactly, but then some people don't quite grasp physics..... ;)

The right way to save energy it to not use use it in the first place. So it's all about using more efficient systems (using a heat-pump or a solar system to generate hot water, for example) and most importantly to only use energy where you need it.

Obviously, here I'm going to drone on about how much energy you save by using a Home Automation system. :)

We had power off - Sunday night between 11 and midnight for appr 10 hrs.
Not loadshedding - some cable thieves cut down 5 pylons on a 132kv supply that feed a ring around the east rand - think 7 or 8 suburbs affected. Eishkom estimate the pylons will take 4 to 5 months be replaced. Actually took pics this afternoon - posted here http://www.one-stop.co.za/cable-theft.html

Eishkom have suspended loadshedding, yet claim Gauteng only reduced by 7%. The non-maintained infrastructure has taken extra strain of course.

I am really getting p_d off. They are given houses, given free electricity, water. All this while electricity is in short supply - wa wa wa.
Has anybody noticed some cars parked at these RDP houses and shacks.

The local gang have taken my "free" electricity away and doubled the allocation to the guys down the road.:mad::mad::mad:

Does everything have to as complicated as choosing a cellphone package in SA?
