Can anyone break down the costs of applying for a new line to add to my other telephone line, cause telkom direct store wants to charge me R700 deposit for additional line
 
What type of line ? just a standard Telkom phone line ? Or ADSL

Do you have a South African ID, because if you dont they want a R700 deposit?
 
just standard telephone line and got SA ID which i showed them

if it works better than my old line probably transfer my adsl to it

Oh and still trying to get my technically account connected and says wrong username or password yet its right

so i shouldnt be charged any deposit right if so going to complain tommorow at telkom direct store :P they probably want free cash

You normally apply for the line and once you have the new number you apply for DSL service (self install)

Do not choose to have the ADSL service installed at the same time as the line is a R900 cost (will find out about this cost)
 
before i do what you said to get adsl/line tommorow just want to make sure i got everything correct :)

ok so i should never be asked to pay R700 deposit from what i gathering then? and it should be free thing besides the closer free install and line rental

The deposit is determined by your personal credit rating...
 
well from pain and suffering from old line not working propally for 6 years so far they owe me tons of lines

telkoms lucky this country doesnt have suing policies like america or i would have made a million :P

Interesting topic.

I am not sure at all what the correct procedure/installation costs are for a second line. (Even if it is on a closer Package?)
 
think i might go ask another telkom person in telkom direct store and see if they say something different

from my understanding if you take closer option 2 when you ask for line you get installation free and you pay extra R20 a month on top of the line rental

actually when reading websites and forms of telkom to get a new line never states you pay a deposit only the installation and rental even read the terms and agreements

Is this R 700 purely a deposit or is there an installation charge on the line which this is meant to cover?

I would really want to clarify this with Telkom if I was you.
If they confirm there is no installation fee on a second line with a closer package (I know this is definitely the case with a first line), then I would question them on what the reason for the deposit would be then.

they said it was a deposit (unless the person helping me was confused) from checking website installation charge is only like R410.57

went in and got my free telephone line they installing hopefully in 7 days chose closer plan 2 so will be R170 per month :)

This guy didnt even ask or say anything about needing to put deposit to get line installed
