You can try asking them. However, there are quite a few companies that would not ship at all If they know that they are shipping to a shipping forwarder.
 
AGS London must be busy nowadays too, waiting a few days now for a package delivered there, to show up on my account =/
 
I was a retard.

Ordered item from Amazon, without checking the weight. Even though it is a small item, its 3.4KG and somehow end up at 7KG shipping weight, according to the amazon website.

And then I wondered why it took 6 days before it showed up on my AGS account, after it was delivered on Monday already, it only showed up today, with a nice surprise in weight. I guess they took their time because the item is heavier than most items they usually do, because I ordered 2 items at the same time, which ship separately even though it is a single order, but the light one was much quicker to appear on my account.

/sigh silly me

Been there, doing that.
I have two orders coming from China right now and they only use DHL, and DHL is even more expensive than Aramex as they work on volumetric and not weight.
So I am looking at about R800 per order, I estimate.
At least I went in and ordered with my eyes open.
 
So 90GBP (about R1700) for shipping directly from the store I was looking to purchase from seems quite reasonable (10-20kg).

Hell yes. There is a shipping calculator bottom right on the AGS page. If you use it you will see that 10KG from Zone 1 is R2056.
So,order direct, but make sure that you prepare for customs duty - and always, always make sure they put the correct invoice on the parcel.
I was fined R2500 as the shipper put a $30 invoice on a $175 USD parcel, and I cannot get that money back. I even lost the PayPal case.
 
That's terrible. Seems like Customs can get away with anything.

The only recourse you could have is to give the seller a negative rating.

Customs are a law unto themselves, and no, I couldn't give the seller a negative rating as they sent a PayPal invoice to me. I also lost the case as seller could prove that the order was received. Grrr.

Now I am very careful to insist that whomever I order from knows to include an invoice for the full amount and sticks it on the box.
 
Things have no doubt been slower the last few weeks. More so here at Johannesburg. Between Aramex and Customs, they took 2 weeks to send me a duties invoice for a parcel sent from ViaBox. Then my AGS stuff too has taken 2 weeks to get a duties invoice.

@DeeinSouthAfrica By the way, would uploading your own invoice before the parcel leaves for SA work as a method to avoid your challenge? Perhaps that way Aramex would use your uploaded copy vs the suppliers one?

Now, does anyone here have any experience importing bluetooth speakers? I have two JBL Flip 2's on their way, and as they cost considerable moolah I just wondered.

According to AGS I should not have a problem: "Hello, due to recent airline restrictions we are unable to ship power banks, batteries or shipments that contain standalone batteries. However, this does not affect items that come packaged with batteries inside or have inbuilt batteries."

Nevertheless, it would be nice to know that others have imported wireless speakers ok.
 
They won't import anything at all with rechargeable batteries in it.

The battery must be removed or the package will not be shipped.

Please don't quote me news alerts or website articles now, call Vusi and ask.
 
It is fait accompli now as they are in New York already. I only ordered once I had scoured the AGS Unacceptable items list V13 and there is absolutely no mention of bluetooth speakers being forbidden.
As for removing the battery? Well, this sentence from ifixit.com should tell you how impossible that is:
Slowly peel the motherboard away from the black glue on the underside.
Make sure the battery below the motherboard is turned off before proceeding.
I seriously wouldn't even want the seller to attempt that.
No, I think I will let sleeping dogs lie and see what happens.

I have not imported bluetooth speaker, so can't vouch for that, BUT, I have imported a robot with a built-in rechargeable battery. They said absolutely nothing about it. It was shipped via the UK depot. It has cleared customs yesterday late, so I might have it by tomorrow, but its already in SA so pretty sure they were fine with it from the UK to JHB.

I have also, shipped 2 fitness watches from the US depot to SA just fine, their batteries weren't removed at all either. That was in the last 3 months for both, again no issues with them either. The last watch was a week ago. Both watches bought from eBay for their superior pricing.
