Yeah, I decided on New York as I figured they will be fast - and they are. A modem was delivered to Springfield Gardens yesterday and I have already received the email asking for invoice. What I did not take into account with the Canadian parcel is just how slow the Canadian postal system is. Parcel is still sitting in Toronto - and to make it worse, the seller was going to Mississauga and offered to drop it off at Shop and Ship...and I said no. :cry:

I can't believe other shipping forwarders are so much more expensive than this. For aramex I got quoted R250 and others were R800 - R2000

Mainstream couriers dispatch almost immediately and you can expect your parcel to be in South Africa within 3 days. Aramex Global Shopper takes about a week to reach here and then JHB must send it on. It's a case of 'you get what you pay for'.

Your parcel is not in JHB yet. The person who updated that info is.
I have seen that before - the date stamp seems to change depending on the whereabouts of who updates the parcel history.

Cool, I hope for double good luck on Monday when I have to pay for my parcel, with the FNB promo code and a still (hopefully) cheaper price from AGS, as my postage is R373 (or R393).

Apologies in advance, I know this has been asked already but can't recall if there was a clear answer on this. Are cellphones safe to forward via AGS (the battery is non-removable if that makes a difference)?

Cellphones are fine, as long as you are aware that duty will be very high.
Aramex do not accept broken phones or tablets.

I repeat, ad nauseum, you cannot ship items with lithium batteries in them. Can't find my emails confirming this atm, call 011 457 3200, option 3 and ask for Vusi, he'll say no.

Seems that cellphones may fall into an open to interpretation kind of category with AGS. So very likely an attempt-at-your-own risk item then?

Yes, in my case exactly that. I knew the iPhone I was ordering had a broken screen but sent it though the UK anyway. AGS gave me no hassles at all, perhaps as the screen didn't actually look broken. They didn't moan about the battery, but thinking about it, perhaps when ordering a phone in future, ask the seller to send battery separately by post.
You can always state on invoice that the battery has been removed.

Not really an option with many modern phones where the battery is not removable. I guess the seller could find a way to remove it but you may be facing a voiding of your warranty in that case.

True. I have dispatched am email to [email protected] and asked them their policy on importing a brand new in box S7 Edge.
I have one, I don't need another, but maybe you do. :D

I ordered a remote from China, with a AA battery inside.. They requested a MSDS certificate for the battery which the supplier sent.. After two weeks of mails they sent a quote for R10 000 as it was hazardous cargo and the minimum charge for hazardous cargo is 45kg's...

Told them to get F%$ked and got TNT to collect it.. TNT had no issue and charged R412... what a waste of time.. first and last time I deal with AGS..
