MTN ordered to withdraw or fix misleading 1-day data bundle ads

The Advertising Regulatory Board (ARB) has found that MTN's ambiguous in-app offers misled customers regarding the duration of its one-day data bundles.

The complainant, Christo Boshoff, brought the issue to the ARB, stating that the mobile operator offers one-day bundles within its app with no clear indication of when they expire.

It added that while the customers who expect it to be valid for 24 hours are technically wrong, the expectation is not unreasonable.
How is this technically wrong? If you buy something that states it is valid for one day, the expectation that it is valid for a full day (i.e. 24 hours) from the time of purchase is not wrong.

The ARB and their mental gymnastics. Valid for today would mean expiry at the end of the day. Valid for 1 day infers it's valid for a period of 1 day from the time of purchase ie. how long is a day? 24 hrs.

Interesting, I never thought about it like that, he is right, 1day is 24 hours

So they will adjust the advertising, not the product

Fine unethical csp's millions like they did in Nigeria ? Customers may be fleeced of millions before these misleading ads are killed.

Daily bundles / Valid for today = Expires at midnight.
One-day bundles / Valid for 1 day = Expires after 24 hours.

This is how it should be!
