Does anybody know where I can find a old arcade cabinet. I'm planning on building my own MAME box.

years ago, there was a company is CT (durbanville side of the world), that sold these things.
I bought a joystick unit and made an arcade joystick for my ZX Speccy. Best damn joystick I ever had - indestructible! Seem to recall it cost me about R30.

Always wanted to make a MAME cabinet, must be a blast. Twin Cobra and SlapFight ROCK!

Post here if some one PM's you some details, please?

lol :) , yeah, I was planning on building it but finding the buttons and joystics is a bit hard. :(

how do I wire this stuff to a PC?
[OFF]

lol

you can either take an old keyboard and sit for days figuring out the keyboard matrix (what two wires produce which keypress) then wire them up to the buttons/joysticks, then tell mame that when you press X you mean "down" (not really suitable for reasons I dont want to sit and write out right now)
keyboard linky : http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade_input.shtml

or you can buy an ipac (premapped programmable keyboard controller)

that is a link to a kit with ipac and buttons and joysticks

here is the link to the makers of the ipac, go read:-)

p.s. a much much easier way (depending on your setup and finances) would be to get an xbox, softmod it (there are LOADS of emulators for it) , put it in an arcade box and hook it up to a tv (easy peasy as that is what it is meant to hook up to) and then plug one of these into it

link to someone who has done the xbox route already

it all depends if you are after easy, or authenticity, or want to tinker for the next year.

What would you recon would be a good price for a MAME cabinet without the controls (that would be a newly build one)?

Try blackball in CT - www.blackball.co.za - just email or phone them - they got the things to me quick and not bad pricing - I have 2 player setup with 6 buttons each wired to old keyboard

Wow! This forum never ceases to amaze me, I was wandering around the MyBb forum basement this morning and found this thread from many moons ago,

I was very big into MAME almost a decade back, also built my own cabinet, first running a dos emu then later switched to windows based running the GAMEX frontend.....

Here is a snap of my cabinet that sits in the corner of my diningroom...

Damn rotation.... Using the ipad and the image appears upright when posting, is there a way to rotate the image on the ipad or directly on the board?

As for the arcade machine, I initially took a keyboard apart and soldered wires directly onto the circuit board.... I eventually ordered me a jpac controller that worked much better....
