Are Afrihost's accounts semi-shaped (shaped during the day and un-shaped after hours) like Nexus' semi-shaped accounts?

I do not know for sure but I highly doubt it. Usually costs slightly more for semi-shaped and at Afrihosts prices it would be unreasoanble to expect it.

Well there deals aren't too good then but oh well. I'll wait for WebAfrica and OpenWeb to respond and hopefully bring in new services. WebAfrica said something about creating gamer focused services, which could be nice.

Define good?

Last time I checked, good was paying R87 for 3GB of IS bandwidth and getting the same (if not better) speeds and latency than SAIX accounts. Not too good was paying R210 from my previous ISP for the same bandwidth allocation.

re: your original question, all the information is on their website.

All Afrihost ADSL Broadband package bandwidth is supplied using the Internet Solutions shaped service for maximum stability and reliability. Internet Solutions is recognised as the leading provider of Internet bandwidth and connectivity in South Africa.

All international bandwidth is brought to you by fibre optic links on the undersea SAT3 cable and NOT via Satellite.

This means that you will enjoy a faster surfing experience with all of our packages without any of the latency associated with satelite connectivity.

We get some discount from Telkom for some odd reason so we pay like R140.00 for 4gigs.

R140 gets you 5GB from Afrihost. I'd much rather support them than Telkom with regards to bandwidth, as I have always done since ditching my Telkom Internet account many years ago.

Good is paying R569 for a 10GB IS semi-shapped account that I get an average download (taken from about a year long period) of 14GB.
This is essentially R40 per GB for semi-shapped which in my opinion is better than Afri-Host's new deal.

Guys its easy to notice!

If you get a IP 196.209 itsshaped and if you get a ip 196.210 is unshaped/semi shaped. You will notice this.

Buy a normal 1GB/9GB IS account. It will give you a IP of 196.209.xxx.xxx but buy a 1GB/1GB IS shemi shaped account from axxess or openweb or anywhere you will get a IP of 196.210.xxx.xxx which indicates its semi unshaped/unshaped :-) What IP do you get from Afrihost?

How does a shaped account impact on game performance?

Not much difference between IS shaped and semi shaped if that is what you ask. On local SAIX servers though. International just one Satellite and one Fiber :)

True. But I play alot of RTS games on international servers. So you can notice a difference.

I play FPS on local servers and I don't notice a difference

You got a point. Just wanted to Note it. People think buying a 1GB unshaped account just to play on SAIX servers are going to make a difference. Its really not going to!
