Are Android Phones the Same?

I would rather look for an older Samsung S5/S6/S8

Or if you are on a tight budget a lower down Samsung.

Having 3 cameras makes no difference if all 3 are honestly crap. And no taking vibrant colours doesn't make it better. Taking real colours make them better. That's why the iPhone tops, and that's why you spend 500k for a decent cinematography camera mainly just for capturing real colours.
Luckily I don't take many photos apart from scanning in documents, till slips for warranty and scanning qr codes etc. The odd photo I do take this camera will be more than sufficient.

Apart from setting up your fingerprint etc. just install so you can remotely track and wipe the phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.adm&hl=en_ZA
You can do that from the browser, it's built into android, no need to install another app:

Bought yourself a new phone?

Though the map doesn't seem to be loading properly ;).
Lol, no if you hit info you can see the age and IMEI number of the device. It's very close to 2 years now, and I've said before that I own a Nokia 7 Plus. I probably won't be replacing it until security updates end, which I don't expect them to do for at least another year, it's still guaranteed to be supported till March next year. They have at least given security updates to even their cheap Nokia 1 and 3 devices for near three years, with them still receiving quarterly updates.

Last I remember you saying you had an LG iirc, was it a K600 or something like that?

K10, yes, was saying how crap it was since they cut out features for the SA version compared to the rest of the world.

I'm still very happy with this phone and only have 3 complaints:
1. The loudspeaker is not great for music and sounds tinny. Whatsapp voice call sounds great however and I use bluetooth speakers/earphones so not a problem for me anyway.
2. There's no notification led but I solved that by getting a cheap smartwatch.
3. It's not going to get much software updates but for the price you can just upgrade more frequently. The Doogee X95 that's coming here soon comes with Android 10.

With Doogee you may get a few updates when the model is new and that's it. They pretty much make a certain number of devices, put out some fixes and then move onto the next model. Most cheaper phones are like this.

I am disappointed by the camera(s). Night shots are of very poor quality despite having three cameras ( 16 mp, 8mp & 8mp ) and a flash at the back. Maybe it is me who cant work with the cameras.

All low to mid range phones suffer with dark/night photos unless you get the iPhone SE 2020 for R10k or import a Pixel 4a for R8k+.

You are saying mid range phone are not good
What kind of mid range phone you have been using

Some mid range phone are the best than those classic phones

You kind of have to define mid-range, since modern mid-range has quite all right night photos if you have e.g. Google Camera port.

The iPhone SE does have a great camera though, but at R10k that's pushing the upper envelope of mid-range and there are definitely phones capable of decent night photos in that bracket.

I must admit I look at the owners old phone here. A Samsung. Old operating system. Small phone. It's quick. I've got my Nokia1.

My Nokia not as fast. Like me.
But, we cope. Mine got 1GB of RAM.

And that's all I need with Android GO.

No need to use any of them there's a zillion review sites not to mention Youtube etc. Take a look at the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S that's a popular mid range phone. Look at all the noise with night shots https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_9s-review-2104p5.php

Sure it looks better than phones of yesteryear except the Nokia N8 that had a beast of a camera. Still sad I dropped that phone and sold it on for cheap. Should've gotten a torx scredriver and fixed it up. Best phone I've ever owned. Fantastic camera with Xenon flash.

alil off topic, but speaking of, which midrangers available locally have a really good Gcam port available?

I am really curious to see the Pixel 4a 5G just cos I find the regular 4a a bit small. But in terms of camera reviews, the 4a stacks up to the A71 which is more pricy. However the A71 has more flexibility in the camera dept with wide angle etc, has an SD chip so Gcam is an option and you can get the A71 dual sim with expendable slot. So if Gcam puts the A71 on a level footing with the 4a its a good option.
