Are late 90s Corollas considered Classics?

It seems that they are in very high demand, my father has one and recently a lot of people coming up to him and asking him if it's for sale. Looking at the prices deal are asking for it it's surprising I've seen a 98 model going for R65000 which is surprisng when my father bought his 98 he paid between 75 -80 thousand and that was 2002 maybe 2001
 
They are going for ridiculous prices if you can find a decent one, but definitely not a classic!
 
Isn't a classic something like 25 years and a vintage 50 years?

I'm a Classic ... ;)
 
Their probably becoming like the old Cresidas. You still see plenty on the road and their owners are mostly black. Think they get purchased because they are good lasting cars, similar to the old Peugots back in the day.
 
I've got a 2001 Toyota Corolla 1.8 Auto, in good condition. Bought it 2nd hand for R80k in 2005. I estimate that I should be able to get about R70-75k for it. Every month I get at least 3-4 people asking me if I want to sell it.

And no. It's not for sale.
 
My mum has a 92' Corolla GLX Auto exec (GLi twincam shape), paid R44k for her back in 95' and can still get back roughly R35k now 17 years later

Toyota's in general lose value for about 3-4 years, then their value slowly decreases annualy then stabilises.

I also have a RunX Rsi who's book value is R80k or so, but they sell for R100-R120k.

Think nicely, if you had to recommend an affordable secondhand vehicle to anyone, what would it be?
 
Guess it's a case of the demand out weighing the supply.

Yes, those are cheap wheel covers I bought at Midas. The other side turns the right way.

From our research as we are in the market to buy second hand, I find the Toyota - esp Corollas are very expensive! We would look at getting the 2003 to 2006 Corolla 1.8...BUT to get one with reasonable mileage, you can fork out anything from R80k plus. For a nearly 10 year old car that is a lot. That said, they are save, reliable work horses. Mmmm, and does not seem to lose their value.
 
Cerebus I was in the market for precisely the same vehicle but couldn't bring myself to pay R15 000 over retail value for a car.
I eventually found myself considering 140i Corollas but they are terribly short on features, most notably airbags.

That said, I do believe if you take enough time and look closely enough you will find that deal you are after. I just conceded after 3 weeks of struggling along one car short.

Good luck, if you find a clean 180i Corolla at the right price you have found a great car.
 
Oh with regards to the question of older shape Corollas, I recently sold my 1998 160i GLE with 235 000kms. When the car was on 215 000kms I drove it across to the West Coast and back over a long weekend and had no qualms about doing so.
I think this opitomises these cars.
