I was wondering while playing with my new toy (MBP) how damaging this new experience is to my health.
Surely so much fun is almost illegal! Look, I have a lot to learn about this new OS but from a noob point of view I have found my laptop very predictable. (suits me) Every move seems so logical that I seldom have to refer to the Help files.
It just seems a pity that Steve Jobs has not done more to popularize this system. No wonder the informed crowd have such passion about his creations. It is therefore not surprising that Apple has become the largest company in the USA on total share value.
Must I feel guilty about last years Dell Studio XPS 1640 gathering dust in the cupboard? I think so.
After all the MBP does not have a Blue Ray Player and Full HD monitor and Windows 7 is a big improvement on Vista.
So maybe when the newness of OS X has worn off, I will share my affections between these great laptops.
So cheers, I am going to have more fun!;)

You much of a typist - as opposed to more mouse-use driven? Because I am, where possible I'll use the keyboard to do something well before wasting time finding the mouse, moving it around to highlight, etcetera ..you get the picture. So, here're two that drive me CRAZY:
  • how do you fare with deleting text to the right of the cursor?
  • How about ctrl-(something) moves? (ctrl-c, ctrl-v, etcetera) I the use RIGHT-hand ctrl-key when using -c, -v, -x, -z with the other - tell me how those operations work for you on that BLOODY keyboard...

Need a delete key? Hold the fn key + back space - if you need a right hand control key to complete you just remap the right hand alt or cmd key.

I'm not a Mac owner, or even a regular user ..and I have learned at least how to get [del] back. What gets my goat is that it's even necessary - is it SO bloody necessary crawl that far up your own design-god arse that it results in paring the keyboard down THAT far? (this falls under the heading of frothing-rhetorical-rant)

Seriously? A missing delete key and second control key bother you that much? Stick with PC's, you'll sleep better. :)

Sometimes to say nothing is the best response!

I think SJ has changed the face of the Computing and Cellular world. Look at what Apple has achieved with the iPad and iPhones in a few years. I must admit that some of his ideas seems crazy at present, but he is a "visionary" and a brilliant leader.
But hey, life would be boring if we all had the same likes and dislikes. So each man to his own castle.

Hear that 'whooshing' noise high up in the atmo there? ..that's the sound of 'the point' (I'm generally and, so far, very lightly alluding to - and you know that) going by - far, far above you. :D ..but the right-ctrl REALLY grinds; I type a fair deal and getting caught by that all the time is really annoying.

In the interests of fair coverage and balanced (..well, -ish) reporting, I give you Arstechnica and the fine art of "The 21st century guide to platform trolling": what's wrong (and maybe even right) with Windows ..and *gasp* say it's NOT so (lawks a mercy!) Mac  ..happy reading, fellas.

I get it, some people can't adapt well to change - fortunately if you are one of those people you can easily remap the keys that trip you up. For the rest of us it's a non-issue. :)

You're right fond of flogging that there straw man, ain't ya? Well, I can see how it'd make you happy - you get that whole smug sense of superiority vibe going ..kinda like the infection you get from worshiping Mac quite so much. ..but ta for that remapping tip - can you tell me if it works/is still valid in Windows-on-MBP (or is answering that beneath you and I should go skritch around for a solution myself...?) :D

 We mac users tend to be a helpful bunch and rest assured if I had an answer I'd gladly offer it up but I'm afraid I have no need for a second OS on this laptop.

No matter; as I said earlier, I'm not the one saddled with the damn thing and the owner doesn't really care about the same issues I do (yes, I'm the uptight one ..shocker, innit?) :p. Ta for the chit-chat; I'll leave you to your smarmy condescension* (at least on this topic, you seem to be an otherwise all right oke...) again.

*(I'm posturing for dramatic effect, it feels obligatory when facing off like this...)

It really boggles my mind why Apple haters hang out here :D If I hated a product, then I wouldn't step anywhere near their forums.

Oh, to the guy that didn't know of other keyboard functions....google it, there is a plethora of keyboard functions that you might not be aware of.

Back to the topic.....yes, I too have been infected by the Mac virus Basil - and I don't see me ever changing...provided they continue making innovative, easy to use, never fail, products. Mac all the way.

Statistics speak for themselves, millions of people make the switch from Windoze to Mac......but you never see a Mac user giving up Mac and going to Windows !!!! that fact speaks volumes....

Here is the url to the huge list of things the Apple keyboard can do - the one I use the most, is one of the variations of doing a capture of a portion of the screen and saving (command shift 4)

 all the way

Yep... It never ceases to amazes me how many second posts in new Apple threads are from Windows, Linux or Android (in the case of iPhone threads) users... Sad really.

Basil, enjoy your new MBP. I also held onto my old Windows machine for a while when I got my MBP but eventually just gave it to my niece 'cos... I'm... never...ever... going... to... use... a... Windows... machine... again.

Like bwana said, you either get it... or you're a PC user.
