Are there differences between console and PC games?

For those that have played the same title on a PC and a console, what are typically the differences? Is it performance? Is it different story lines? Are there no differences?

Depends on the game!

Control scheme is obviously different, controller vs keyboard/mouse. Console doesn't need installation or configuration before you play :D Console version is also released first.

As an example, Unreal Tournament 3 on the Xbox 360 had added content that the PC/PS3 version didn't have. Yet FEAR on the PC was longer than the console version. So it's all relative.

Only game I play on my PC these days is Football Manager. Play mostly on my Xbox 360

Yup, I agree with maestro there are quite a number of differences, take the Resident Evil 4 port to PC. The control scheme was horrible with keyboard and mouse. Yes the PC versions will look better OBVIOUSLY but they usually screw up the controls, another example is Dead Space.
Speaking about UT3, the PC and PS3 versions just received the Titan pack which gives all the functionality of the 360 version and more.

Yeah.. consoles are limited..its a simple solution generally catering for people who find computers too complicated. Im not saying everyone who has one iss an idiot.. its just the average console gamer is a little more limited than the average PC user.

Keyboard and mouse always beats controller.

Keyboard and mouse only for shooters, adventure games and fighter are a fail on a keyboard it's too uncomfortable for me.

Keyboards are for big people games.. Okay I wont be bitchy.. But keyboards and mouse are for intense games.. Like Strategy games. There the controller fails. Personally, I have never liked adventure games, but still the PC wins. Hence the reason I havent seen WOW on the local xboxs.

Imagine trying to use all your plugins for WOW with a console.

But yeah.. Keyboard and mouse dominates FPS (of which most of the national squad games are made up of), and it dominates strat games.

As WOW shows.. it also dominates the adventure type games.

I imagine you can play Tekken really nicely with a controller.

WOW isnt adventure... MMORPG (role playing game).
Adventure is more the likes of Drakes Fortune/Tomb Raider etc...

As for your comment of intensity? Does that make playing something like Gears less intense becos its done with a controller?

Oh really? Im a software engineer by profession specialized in telecomms with tech such as Java EE5, .Net etc.
And I prefer gaming on Xbox360/PS3...

Aaah, get it. Those games are boring for me. To be honest.. I find WOW boring. I found Tomb raider boring, I found Prince of Persia boring, etc etc etc.

Im sure those games work well on a controller.

I wouldnt know though... I get bored in minutes.

LMAO! Now there is a funny statement, its seems PC fanbois love to mock console gamers and write it off as toys, a real man plays PC. Actually a real man has a life beyond the realm of WOW. WOW people are still the biggest nerds and are lacking in social skills and I know I'll get flamed for that statement right there ;)

Totally agree with you.

I see "lack of reading" seems to be a big console thing.

why is it everytime you say PC game you automatically think, nerd, WoW.... ?

I don't play WoW!

We have grown up beyond the Golden China / Mega Drive / Playstation and are now playing with Expensive toys - we've moved beyond TV Games.

Now, when your System has more than 4 different colors (Red, blue, green and yellow buttons), you know it's a toy.

Star Craft, Diablo, Crysis and so on are for the more mature, and a different kind of gamer than the Playstation/XBox crowd.

Let me explain:
Console is more of an Arcade System - Fun, easy and casual. Plug in and play!

PC is more for the guys blowing serious dough, for serious Equipment - throwing twice the amount you pay for your entire xbox, into maybe 1 component. now before you say that is a bad thing, i'll say now that we like to be able to control every different aspect of our Rig. We like to be able to choose between 93 different speakers, 63 different joypads, 33 different hard drives , etc, etc...
if you can afford it, you get it - if you can't, you can also get it, but cheaper makes - so, we have a more choices.

we don't wanna be limited by the choice between a 20GB, and a 120GB drive.....
