Workaholism linked to ADHD

http://edition.cnn.com/2016/06/12/health/work-addiction-adhd-norway/index.html

(CNN)The difference between enthusiasm for work and addiction to it can sometimes be difficult to discern, especially when it's so easy to take work home on a smart phone or laptop.

To find out how many people are true workaholics, researchers from the University of Bergen surveyed thousands of people in Norway using the Bergen Work Addiction Scale, which uses diagnostic criteria for several kinds of addiction.

What is workaholism?

The study found that 7.8% of people could be classed as workaholics.

This meant these people were spending more time at work than intended, working to reduce feelings of guilt and anxiety, and deprioritizing hobbies and exercise because of work.

I can say with absolute certainty that I am NOT a workaholic.

Yeah, not at all.

Work is for when I'm at work - it is very rare that I do any work outside of business hours.

Can't say that I am.

I immediately switch off when I leave the office, unless there is a pressing need (i.e. deadline) to do the work before the next day or two.

Some people at the office have their office email linked to their (personal) phones but I have decided not to do that. More to life than being "switched on" all the time.

Enthusiastic - yes .... addicted ... no.

I spend more time at work than intended to miss those moments when the mother in law visits .....

I've seen other people do the same; stay at work late because of home issues. That does not a workaholic make.

I think, if it were my own business -then yes. But working for a boss ....

My son has his own business, and the kid is definitely a workaholic. He sets riduculous goals then tries to achieve them ... but for him, time is money.

Only in a structured environment.. Places that combine too many roles and a task becomes a com from customer and my self dependence can only go so far for so long.

Then combo that with management that knows what it should be like but lack will to fix it and I am job searching daily.

I don't believe in being a workaholic in an unorganized place as it just means I will be working myself into a grave/old age where really life can be a helluva lot better if it done right.

PS. I love how in interviews people ask how passionate you are.. But dislike when u asked how well managed & organized the organization is. Tit for tat..

Nope, I work my hours and that's it.

I'm not a workaholic because I'm not terribly passionate about what I do. I could become a workaholic if I was doing something I really cared about. It's probably best this way.

What do you do?
