Are you affected by crime?

Why, what happened? :D

Taxi driver almost drove over pedestrian. I shouted and screamed. Taxi driver wanted to show me just how much he thinks its none of my business. :)

Chased me with said AK pointed at my head. I drove like hell and got away. Yay!

Oh, I forgot to mention attempted hijacking.

I do a high risk type job. I see the full gamut of crimes almost on a daily basis, been affected by some. Getting stabbed or shot at kinda ruins your day

at home, only a single attempt. Dogs got him. Dogs trained not to accept any food from strangers. Boerboels dont bark a lot. He only found out his rattex-in-the-meat trick didnt work when he was inside the yard already :D

Get affected by crime every time telkom sends me a bill too

Several of our neighbours have had some sort of attempted or actual burglary in the past month. I waited and watched for a while. Nothing happened. Then one night I saw two guys acting suspiciously, crouching behind cars etc. Went outside and saw them scaling a neighbour's high wall. Waited until they were finished then captured one. He was crying and whimpering until the police came (:)). He had a knife and a also a screwdriver (found much later). Amazing thing is how everyone just went on with their lives as if it were normal. I didn't even get a "Ta very much" from said neighbour! I reckon the insurance next month is going to go up because we are now a crime hotspot. That is the reality. We ALL pay for crime in some way or another.

Burgled 5 times, 2 attempted burglaries, still waiting for cops to get back to me :-) I am amazed that some bright spark decided that 1 male in 5 is a rapist, isnt that what charlize theron was waffling on about a few years back? ya, its a seriously sick society we are living in.

Car been broken into several 6-10 times down the years I've been living where I am; also one break-in to my flat (the only one in my building in 11 years, dammit!). Tools 'n stuff taken from the car now 'n then, took my PC when the flat got broken into ..but because of that theft I got a laptop, which I use more than I ever used the desktop.

Oh, the microwave got nabbed at the same time, but it had broken down so they saved me the hassle of having to dump it myelf

Jeez... I must be very lucky compared to some here.

In CT - had my car broken into twice (over 6 year period)
In JHB - no incidents (over 4 year period)

...wonder when my luck's gonna run out

WE are all affected by crime. All of lock ourselves up every night, most have alarms, most of those are linked to armed response, we look over our shoulders and worry about our wives and children.

Imagine the extra cash in the economy if there was no crime at all.

Yep, house broken into some years back though I came home before they could get any big stuff out. Car battery taken twice, second time they broke in through the roof though how they carried it out i dunno...
Now I dont leave the house less there is someone staying home...

*hijacked, mugged, car stollen, car broken into, death threats, pets killed, house broken into, shot at. all in a period of 2 years.* that has got to be the worst of the lot though... sorry man....

This thread is... beyond my comprehension. In the US we just shoot people if they cause crime. Someone breaks into your house? Open fire. Someone is trying to carjack you? Unload a clip. Etc, etc the list goes on. You guys need to get weapons and fight back, if the government has anti-gun laws then I feel sorry for you guys, all that does is give guns to the criminals and take away guns from people who need them for defense.

Yes, sisters car was nicked and used as a goat transit(Durban police found the car in durban),some oak stole my hosepipe twice, I saw some intruders in my yard at night

Well that doesnt sound too bad, do you really want to water your garden?

And what do they do with a whole length of hosepipe? maby they thought the water would come with it..

(wry) chuckle .. you getting the picture now Confederados? Still so keen on coming here? (yes, I've seen your other thread) ..is not being connected enough to break through the 'Ivy League old boys' club' still so bad? And as for firearms, it's beyond fantastically difficult to even GET one, much less use it. More, should you get it right, the life you're used to with being able to get ammo from Wal-Mart(esque) places is a fantasy here ..hell, we're restricted on how much ammo we're allowed to have (and maybe even shoot, tho' I don't know that for a fact).

That said, for my part I've been lucky: only once was I actually present at one of my car break-ins and for that I was up in my flat with the car out on the road and I heard the glass break but the horror stories of our thugs up and shooting people is a daily reality - move here and learn what 'living by the sword' is really all about.

My guess is this 'The Confederatos' is not American at all - he is a school kid messing around.

If he is American, he is a redneck trying for some attention.

In 15 years, had one incident: a burglary and theft of car by a couple of white teenagers. Got everything back when they panicked on seeing a cop car, and hit a tree. Cops didn't get them, unfortunately.

In the same time, my dad had one attempted smash & grab, and I don't think my mom has had anything. My father-in-law had a burglary, and a phone stolen from his car.

Yes, I was affected by crime today, everything I did went wrong today (took 1 and a half hours to get some money out of the bank) so I really struggled to help my friend get her Golf to the mechanic since the black bastards that tried to steal her car over the weekend broke her gearbox trying to get past the gearlock, broke off the indicator levers and the hooter button out of the steering wheel.
