Are you coping financially?

Nothing's changed financially, but I find that I'm working a lot more and a lot harder since we've changed to WFH.

Apparently since travelling is no longer an issue, it's ok to set up meetings during travel hours, whereas at the office the rule was 9-3 only.

So I'm poorer in terms of time, not money...

Not to give a snide comment. But I think many people, including myself would like to be in your position right now.
Finding work sucks right now.

Barely hanging in there. I've personally been lucky to have worked throughout lockdown and beyond. Work for a bank so considered an essential worker. However, I live with my mother and sister, with her 2 girls and that's where the financial pressure comes in. My sister has been without work for a year now and those chickens are coming home to roost. Have cut back in many areas but without her income, it's always going to be tough.

Sucks man.
That's how I feel most days. She probably feels like a massive burden to you.
I only hope for the best outcome for your family.

It's understandable if she does, I would. But we understand that it wasn't her fault. She was about to take a new position before Covid struck and she lost that job.

I'd give the shirt off my back if it came to that. As long as my nieces are taken care of, I'm happy. I'm a glorified hobo, doesn't take much to keep me content, fortunately

Yeah I'm fortunate to have not taken a salary cut, but being asked to be 50% more productive for the same pay doesn't mean you're winning either.

It's not lekker working until 2am because your day is taken up with meetings. Then you have to be up at 7am and do it again. It's mentally taxing and you end up neglecting your family.

IMO it's pointless having money when the important things like your health and family suffers. I'd gladly take a small cut and settle for 8am - 5pm...

When you get to do something like that again, my honest suggestion is move slightly more "upmarket" to Hussar Grill or something like that, the 5 - 10% increase in price tag is well worth it for the 40% increase in quality of food and service.
Lol im in Durban, never heard of this place you speak of

Running on fumes now, been supplementing my income with savings for the last 14 years or so. Hardly ideal but I'm a lazy, uneducated c unt who inherited well (Generous uncle).

You are a good brother.
I would do the same for my family.
Trying to supplement an income isn't an easy task either. It takes a lot of time and effort.

I've been there too in the past.
Sometimes working until 4am before I get to bed. It's not fun.

That's how burnout occurs.

Tera, don’t beat yourself up too much about relying on your mom. The fact that it doesn’t sit well with you should be proof enough that your mom raised you right and the reason she is still your backup.
As long as you are pulling your weight around the house I bet she is grateful to have you around.
People pulling together is a positive we can take from this less than ideal situation many of us find ourselves in.

I’m fortunate to be in a really good place (financially) to weather the storm. I am currently a financial lifeline to a fair number of people though, which has certainly been enlightening: A lot of people who look like they’re doing well are just a few paychecks away from homelessness. Also a lot of people (especially musicians) think their friends or fans would have their back, but when the going gets rough, they magically vanish.

Thank you sir.
Yep, I'm living with one of my siblings at my own place/abode if you will.
Things aren't easy, but I'll get there.
I always repay my debts. So when I receive a solid income I will definitely pay everyone back, in a financial context.

People are that way. Many people I know are that way. You're good enough when the money flows. When it dries up you are left hanging.

I've become used to not counting my eggs before they hatch.

Its a disaster for me.
Im an executive which people thinks means you earn a lot, what it means is that Ive pretty much been without a salary since Covid started.

We invested in a gym rebrand just before Covid hit and the financial knock of that has been nothing short of crippling.
We actually made more money selling clothing and supplements than the actual gym.

Its not looking positive anywhere. Got family members without work and its becoming challenging to keep helping those around or even ourselves.

Might have convinced the Ex that leaving the country is a good idea so I can take my daughter and go somewhere more promising.

The thing that irks me the most of it all is that all of this destruction of lives and livelihoods lost are directly due to this government.

They smile all the way to the bank. Stuff their faces and don't care about anything or anyone but themselves. I'm in a bad position. Going by posts here I can see that I'm far from being alone in it.

I hope as a company you will be able to plan the future prospects and be in a better position soon.

As you've said. You don't even receive a salary right now. Because your employees need to. When and why did that become normal? It's due an inefficient and no care government.

I hear you.
I havent checked but I believe the ministers etc should have taken a wage cut during lockdown and even now. The rest of the country basically went to the dogs, why must they not suffer with us.

The tax base has shrunk to almost nothing, there is soon going to be nothing left to steal.
I have seriously considered starting a political party thats entire focus in the beginning is to eliminate corruption by using auditors outside the country. Bring back military conscription and introduce military schools for youths to try reduce unemployment and instill some education and discipline.
Use them to help the police force reduce crime etc

Corruption should honestly be punished by full asset forfeit to the state and hard labor.
What kind of government steals from those during a time of crisis.

Then again, majority of people are unemployed or screwed, majority voted for the government, feels like we not going to win this anytime soon

If you start a Political Party with those values, then you have my vote.

I'm just glad I was able to make money as a freelancer (though it hit really hard when the lockdown was first introduced) and still earn a salary. Wife started working in November last year, earning a pretty good salary for her first job in her new career so things have settled off a little for me. Working much more closer to home now, a total of 6km per day. Haven't bought anything nice for myself since last February, I'm pumping as much as possible into my savings now than ever, very uncertain times!
Started a new challenge with the wife this year, have a balance of at least R2000 a day before payday else dishes are yours for an entire month. So far no one has tripped up which is calming knowing that we're spending wisely.
