It is about making your voice heard. Voting doesn't give you the opportunity.
It's about unity.

It's about showing up and not just moaning behind a pc screen
It's about showing that you are not ok with what is happening

All change is started by one person voicing an alternative opinion and getting more people to voice theirs

So remind me, how did the ZumaMustFall protest in 2015 work out?

Is it not becoming clear that a different approach is needed?

Yup. It's not about politics right now. It's about showing solidarity with your fellow South African.

Except this is NOT the same thing.

And now we get back to the real questions: why not? What's different?

In 2015 people also marched in the streets, at their expensive WW picnic lunches, waved around mean placards, marched on the house of parliament, etc.

Very difficult to prove a causal connection, the but the ANC got their worst result in the municipal election the following year...

The DA actually won a few municipalities back from the ANC. So it worked very well.
But let's ignore that ne?

Its not going to happen overnight. If you think that you are a fool.

Which doesn't help us when the next election is 2 years away. ANC voters are fickle and easily swayed, and the egghead can still do a lot of harm.

You really want to let this fool stay in presidency another 2 years? :erm:

Zoopy - This time, Zuma is taking away our right to a democratic South Africa. Protesting is one of the very few ways we can unite under one voice, one banner and one movement. Your choice to do nothing is exactly that - yours. And you're entitled to that. However, why not do something in your own way which you believe is more effective to act as a catalyst for change? Or are you happier to just let it burn to the ground? It's up to you. It's up to me. It's up to all of us. Anything is better than nothing.

My Facebook feed and WhatsApp chat groups are filled with my friends going on about how they're changing SA for the better, but I'm just not seeing it. When you ask anyone how this March is going to help get Zuma out of the office, you're met with blank stares at best and aggression at worst. Everyone seems convinced that they're doing their part by showing up and someone at the 'top' is taking care of the rest. But truthfully, either there is no plan or it's not being shared with the people on the ground because a bunch of people meandering about doesn't seem like much of a plan to me.

A bit more realism is what I ask for. Zuma and the ANC have proven time and again that they don't give a flying crap about citizens being angry. So what is this protest going to accomplish, that the 2015 ZumaMustFall protest couldn't, and how is it going to accomplish that? Nobody seems able to answer these questions satisfactorily, or even at all. Everyone seems to be convinced they're doing the right thing and that they're part of something bigger than themselves. You know what else is bigger than an individual? A wad of semen. And semen regularly serves no purpose other than to be spurted in places it can do nobody any good.

Sustained public pressure and unity helps. The idea isn't that Zuma will just up and quit because people protested for one day. It's about building bridges with people from different parts of society that you don't normally engage with. Look at what people are already saying above. You meet people, gain an understanding of their lives. Forging solidarity!

If the ANC wants to throw up the BS about the DA being a white party we'll have (more) incontrovertible evidence that it isn't so. If people don't go out and make their voices heard, the ANC can just say, "well, people don't seem to mind."

Seriously, sitting at home moaning does not help. It's akin to the people that refuse to vote "because it doesn't change anything." But it does! And so does building new citizen coalitions, even if it takes long.

What are the alternatives again?

Maybe it's time we sat down and realistically started discussing them?

Because shouting people down for being realistic when they question the efficacy of a march that might yield results in the long-term while Zuma is destroying the country in the short-term, is clearly not the way to go. More drastic action is needed. A lot more drastic than me unpacking my Woolworths lunch next to the highway while I rest between swinging a poster around and making 'tjommie-tjommie' with some black guy I'm probably never going to see again in my life. The unfortunate truth is that this protest will be all but forgotten bu the end of May. Just like the one in 2015.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I doubt it.

I did not say that, pressure from the public has been increasing and the elections was a result. So Zuma didn't fall in 2015, but support to have him ousted are growing.

And this are hopefully the end game. Not just the protests. Everything that has been mounting.

No I do not want him to only go in 2019.

There isn't only one correct way. If you want a different approach suggest that as well.

You really don't see the self-perpetuating circle here? Not being snarky, but it's exactly this attitude that precludes anything changing. Make an effort to get involved in civil society that seeks to make a change. Get involved in ongoing efforts beyond the protests.

We've got a democracy, use it folks!

(not just talking to you, Zoopy, but all of us. :p)

What more drastic action do you suggest then?

20,000 marching to Union Buildings ?

That is huge for an SA march.
Seems to be a simliar number in the CT march. Plus around 10-15 thousand who went direct to Parliament. The crowd is huge. And more people join all the time.
