There's always going to be abuse with new tech, but cheers to any positive gains. It's very hyped at this early stage though, as is usual.

Some of the AI slop being seen suggests we're very far from something that could truly be called intelligence.

Eh - this has never really bothered me. All I care about (for the most part) is how it *appears*, and for most of the tasks I've used GPT for and also just with the voice interactions I've had while driving there's enough happening that it appears intelligent - which is good enough for most tasks.
 
I get why some people are nervous about AI and the idea that it might put people out of work, especially in creative fields. But AI doesn't magically give you talent. If you’ve got no interest or instinct for music, art, writing, whatever, then AI isn’t going to turn you into a pro or replace someone who actually knows what they’re doing. You still need taste, direction, and at least some idea of what makes something good.
I already dabbled in photography, 3D, image editing and creative writing. AI just sped things up and gave me a way to try new creative stuff I probably wouldn’t have tackled otherwise. It’s not replacing anything. It’s just a tool.
On top of that, it’s actually helped me build my technical skills too : getting things running locally, figuring out workflows, troubleshooting errors, all of it. You can’t just press a button and expect good results. You still have to do the work, just in a different way.
Photoshop didn’t kill photography and AI’s not going to kill creativity either.
 
It's not a yes/no answer. I've used it to create workflows that save me a ton of time doing daily mundane tasks such as controlling stock files (look for the latest Excel files in such and such a folder that follow this naming convention, make these changes to them, save them in that format in some other folder), but I hate when people think that ChatGPT makes them at expert in a certain field.

I had a debate with someone who was clearly using an LLM to respond, and responded with the following to point out the flaws in blindly following and believing what you're told:

No because people wholesale copy paste what these LLM chat bots throw out with no regard for accuracy and they just end up posting AI slop that has no basis in truth.
I can easily see this becoming the norm where instead of people doing research or forming their own opinions they simply regurgitate what the "AI" tells them this is what they should think and respond with.

You can ask it to argue from any point of view and it will tell you what you want to hear rather than what's reality.

Maybe once we reach true AGI it will catapult humanity into some kind of utopia or hellscape, who knows guess we will have to wait and see.

People who think ai music is getting there have horrible music taste. The machine learning models used produces a real slush of overused generic slop. Uninspired mush of music.

Once AI experiences human emotions then I’ll change my mind. AI tools like mixing and mastering using reference tracks is great though. Good use of the tech as well since many audio engineers reference by ear.

Visual artists will agree with regarding their content.
 
Everyone loves a bit of AI until the robots rise up and and kill us all, like in that Arnie documentary
 
AI is a productivity tool, not a human replacement.
Megacorporations think its a human replacement which is obviously the wrong approach.

Much like the advent of the Internet, AI usage should be regulated so it doesn't get out of hand. But once we strike that balance I think we will find AI to be quite useful.

Accounting is pretty basic, but needs accuracy and they failed at it. So they are not intelligent at repeated tasks that need precision.

Is it useful? Absolutely yes. Having somewhat intelligent text transformation is very useful.

Ani will love you but I think its because of the nature of how folks grew up. Especially with the greater advent of LLM's and more natural speak. When it was stiff and jolted, easy to ignore courtesies but with personalities and natural speak, more ingrained courtesies kick in.
