Arm-wrestle for control begins

<QUOTE>Knott-Craig says that within next 12 months, broadcasters and telecom companies will have to decide whether they will work together or slug it out.</QUOTE>
They will work together. Why do u think Telkom and Multichoice r thinking of doing the VOD together on Telkom's triple play service?

2 Monopolies working together to rape their consumers
:(

I really don't mind fists flying around, cause with each punch, i get something 50c cheaper.

Big pipes? They're not big. hosepipes more like it.

Seriously though, Vodacom, MTN, CellC, IS, Telkom. Etc... Should be more worried about delivering connections, size and speed. Not worrying about where my voicemail server is. Or which phone I use.

Knott-Craig is a liar and a telkom suck up. Bleh. He makes me sick

Shame is poor old Vodacom worried about microsoft stealing some of their money ? From one devil to another.....IMO

Id rather give microsoft my money than vodacom or any other part of telkom.

Although they say better the devil u know...

Hear hear! :D

I couldn't care less about Vodabomb, the consumer will be benefiting. :-) This will be a similar scenario when true competition is allowed in the broadband sector.

Brilliant!

Knott-Craig fears that if Microsoft's operating system becomes the de facto standard for newfangled cellular handsets capable of receiving broadcast video and other multimedia content, the US company will be able to control interaction with consumers and leave operators such as Vodacom as little more than owners of a platform over which services are delivered.

Someone help me out... what are they more than this currently? (And they're not that good at it either).?

Which, I think, would leave SA consumers pretty much between the devil and the deep blue sea :/

Heh .. good point! Currently they're doing little more than sitting on their asses raking in billions ... sounds like they're complaining that they'll have to lift a finger.

"He who has the most leverage with the consumer will win the game."
I think he meant to say "the most leverage over the consumer :/

Well, technically an operator should just be a pipe for content by anybody willing to provide said content. I agree Microsoft should not be the one and only software provider in the mobile business unless they really are the best. When telcos start restricting access to their networks of other content providers we are steering towards dangerous territory.
