Pretoria - All Zodwa Twala could think about was the safety of the children in her care at a crèche in Ga-Rankuwa when three armed assailants brazenly stormed in this week.

Their pot of gold was the R40 000 that had been paid by parents, at R260 per child, for an educational excursion to Aventura in Bela Bela, Limpopo. The trip was scheduled for Thursday.

That was not all.

Along with the money, the intruders also demanded cellphones and laptops, which they snatched during the armed robbery on Monday.

But Twala said she was not prepared to let them touch the children or allow them to witness gun-wielding men ransacking the premises with their teacher in tow.

She bravely stood in front of the men – possibly risking her own life – and pleaded with them not to harm the children.

People talk. Somebody definitely knew about the money which was for an excursion planned for the [-]pupils[/-] learners.

They phoned 702, chances are the money will be donated so they can still do the trip.

Definitely more to this story. Maybe the owner is in on it. Just sounds way too fishy.
 
No place is sacred. If only we had better policing and a willingness from the top to stamp out crime and corruption.

Hopefully someone knows who these f...ers are and passes the info on.
 
Why keep R40 000 cash on the premises? Use other methods.

Internet banking is not the only alternative to cash, the creche could have given them a bank account to deposit the money into.

Na, thing like this will close a creche down. My kid goes to one that is amazing but if this happened I'd seriously consider a different option.

People go nuts with this type of thing. I know there is no logic to it but you go crazy.


Could be one of the helpers at the creche though... or a cleaner. People love to handle cash like this... I can't understand why

Its a creche... in a township... that probably doesn't have a bank nearby
 
The creche fees must be more than R250, if those were also collected in cash then they would have targeted month end.

Hence... parents probably pay via deposit.
 
People Garankuwa is not a some rural village with no power. It is a town just like Pretoria. There are banks electricity and even running water.
