Army deployed at Eskom power stations

Even if it is a pointless gesture it is telling that they weren't willing to make this pointless gesture earlier. Like when unions were blockading power stations.

Correct me if I'm wrong but in one of the articles it was mentioned that 10 soldiers will be assigned per plant.
That is basically 3 posts with 3 shifts, our barrack had 26 people on guard duty and its size is maybe 10% of plant size.
They cant nor they will be willing to stop any breach with weapons so for now I think it is pointless political exercise with no effect on security.

So much negativity in the comments...lemme guess all of you are white? Well there's always Australia and New Zealand.

02 Jun 2006:

A wave of anger and indignation has met remarks by Minister of Safety and Security Charles Nqakula that ”constant moaners” about crime should rather leave the country.

Nqakula’s attack on those complaining about the crime rate came during debate on his Budget vote in Parliament on Thursday.

He said: ”They can continue to whinge until they’re blue in the face … be as negative as they want to, or they can simply leave this country so that all of the peace-loving South Africans, good South African people who want to make this a successful country, can continue with their work.”

He said by the minister’s own statistics, every day 51 South Africans are murdered, 151 rapes are reported by women and children and 347 armed robberies take place.

And here we go with the same attitude again 16 years later after the crime rate has massively increased to 79 murders a day.

Cant deploy the army without a state of emergency.

You can. But they have no jurisdiction nor any powers over civilians without a state of emergency or martial law and have to be under the direct orders of a policeman.

do they not know who is behind the sabotage..... they need to root it out from the bottom or they are wasting time

Being a soldier yourself you are the one who should be teaching me about the dark art of telling apart maintenance workers from saboteurs.

You can't. Unless you're trained in maintenance. Which most soldiers aren't. So the deployment is just window dressing.
