Article: 1.7 million crimes not reported

More than 3.3 million crimes occur per year and half of them are not reported, according to a survey published by the SA Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR).

It said according to data from Statistics SA, around 1.7m crimes [52 percent] were not reported to the police in 2011.

I always wonder how they determine these numbers. If they know about 3 daily murders which are not reported, should these murders not be investigated?

This is the new South Africa for you. Only the high profile murders are looked at and the ones which make the press releases. As for the others . . . why waste meagre state resources? WTF

Do you honestly think the cops will get off their bums and go looking for those?

Reported a case of fraud and theft about a year back.

Took more than a month to get a case number out of them. No investigation have started yet, they have in the past 14 months only taken a statement from the accused, that's it. And we are not speaking R1,000 here, the amount is in excess of R500k

Apparently now waiting for a court order to get hold of bank statements. That has been the story now for almost four months. From what I know this case will be lost, they already stuffed it up. If the accused have a lawyer with half a mind he will walk free.

So in short, what is the use to report it in the first place.... nothing gets done and when something gets done its stuffed up.....

Sad sad sad news but so true by the rate murders in this country is going our nations numbers will drop extremly
