Private security response is much faster that the police, I agree.
But you must also take into account that their vehicles service a smaller number of people, they only respond to complaints on the home owners property and surrounding homes ie people breaking in next door. Therefore their service is limited to only a few incidents while the SAPS are responsible for a very large number
They don’t generally service the townships. Which is where most of my incidents took place?
Also if they respond to an incident the amount of paperwork that has to be completed is far less than the police officers must complete
The above is no way knocking the private security services, we worked very closely with Atlas Security in PE and we would have a radio set to their frequency so we could respond if any reports of serious incidents came through, We caught quite a few house breakers that way.
They also backed us up in quite a few incidents, one in particular was when two of my friends were working in the township and pursued suspects as my friend came round the corner ne suspect was on a crate aiming at my friends head, luckily when the suspect fired it had a misfire and my friend was able to kill the suspect.
There were no SAPS vehicles nearby who could provide backup, there were still two armed suspects in the vicinity. They called Atlas and within a few minutes had backup.
Another thing to remember is that many armed response officers are ex police as are their trainers at the company.
The police and private security must work hand in had and it will make a major difference in crime in the areas where this happens
