Article: 162 drunk drivers arrested

A total of 162 drunk drivers have been arrested at nine roadblocks spread throughout Johannesburg ahead of the long weekend, the city's metro police said on Friday.

"One person was arrested for driving a stolen motor car and another whose vehicle was fraudulently registered," said spokesman Wayne Minnaar.

Hope these idiots get their license revoked and a 5 year suspended ban from driving.

Yeah, it's (wtf).
We had two accidents in the area at 1am this morning. One dude rolled his car, and the only way you can do that in that road is by going 100-120km/h. Another lady whacked a speedbump, went through a streetlamp and had to be cut out of her car.

A dedicated driver should be exactly that.

The best thing we could do in South Africa, despite what we WANT to hear, is increase the legal drinking age to 21 and enforce zero tolerance throughout the country.

There were mornings when I couldn't remember even leaving clubs, let alone driving home... I was fortunate enough to survive my late teens and early twenties despite being a relatively inexperienced driver and driving whilst drunk. Now that I am older though, I really regret putting other peoples' lives at risk like I did. It is one of the things I would take back if I could. Needless to say, after having several of my close friends die whilst driving under the influence, I don't drink any more.

They trotted out some BS figures over Christmas too. Don't feed us crap about how many we're arrested. It means nothing. Tell us how many were convicted.

Maybe if the government spent our tax money on proper public transport instead of tendering it to their mates, people would have alternative methods of getting around...

Heck, even the public transport we do have doesn't operate at night (BRT and Gautrain).

One could be forgiven for thinking that the government actually wants motorists to drive drunk, as they make more money from bribes and fines.

Remember, two beers over dinner and you are ''drunk'', so not all 162 drivers need to be irresponsible idiots that are motherless.

tell that to the mother whose kid was run over because the driver said he was fine.

Every individual is responsible for their own safety and the safety of others. When people drive a car sober, drink with the intention to drive over the limit, don’t blame government.
