tell that to the mother whose kid was run over because the driver said he was fine.
Don't be dramatic. I'm not talking about drinking a case of beer and washing it down with a bottle of tequila, I'm talking about having a beer, eating a starter, having a beer with your main meal, having desert and then hitting the road.
everyone has different thresholds, what i'm saying is that often people cannot make accurate judgment on how drunk they are. they may think that they're fine, but when they drive they're obviously not. many people make it home drunk and in one pice, but in almost every accident and hit and run, a drunk or fatigued driver is involved.
they may be irresponsible, but they're not self-destructive. nobody would hop into a car if they knew they were going to run over somebody later that night, so i don't know why people who drink try it
Half the accidents here have drunk pedestrians. But drunk pedestrians avoid roadblocks and probably don't have money for the fines (or bribes).
what are they going to do, speed past a traffic cop at 6 Kmph? as annoying as pedestrians, cyclists, animals and other drivers are, if you drive safely, you will most likely end up getting to your destination safe
As it turns out factors contributing to fatal crashes for the period Apr10-Mar11, only 1.66% of them could be attributed to drunken driving, whats all the fuss about???
The major contributors were
Speed - 40.11%
Jay walking - 30.71%

Definitely. A 100kg man will be able to drink more than a 45kg woman. A fit 95kg man will likely not be able to drink as much as an out of shape 80kg man could.
I was purely responding to the fact that our law now states that after one beer you are drunk or on the limit and that I dispute such an assertion, barring a few exceptions (fitness freak, drinking on an empty stomach, not a regular drinker). Many, many, MANY people will have a beer or a glass of wine with their meal but that does not meen every person leaving a restaurant is hammered and a menace.
i was under the impression that we still did breathalyzer tests, my dad has a beer and still passes them? unless something has changed very recently ...
It would still depend on your body's ability to digest the alcohol whether or not you pass or fail the test. The two beers an hour is just an indication, whether or not you fail or pass would depend on your body size, metabolism, etc. And it's "under the influence" not drunk - there is drunk too where you can be prosecuted for "appearing" intoxicated if they somehow contrive to lose or botch your blood test as often happens.Depends on the time period between your drinking and breathalyzer test. By law you are allowed 1.5 units of beer (1x 340ml beer) and if you take a test within an hour of drinking your 1.5 units of beer you will be deemend to be on the limit. Drink two beers in an hour and you will be drunk.
I encountered a drunken driver each and every night of the long weekend, no kidding. I must be very unlucky or it is just common. Well at least either they were drunk or just very bad at speed, stopping and following distance, haphazard breaking and keeping a straight driving line.![]()
