Article: ANCYL says ministers must be fired

ANC Youth League president Ronald Lamola has slammed ministers for poor service delivery and called for their firing.

He was speaking at the ANCYL's Nelson Mandela lecture in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, on Saturday.

As an ANCYL member that is becoming increasingly disillusioned with the organization, I agree 100% with Lamola. Angie is the number one minister that must be fired. She is useless, she destroyed the quality of basic education just so she can get a better national matric pass rate result.

I think civil society organizations such as Section 27 have done a brilliant job in pressuring the useless Limpopo education department to deliver text books to schools via a court order.
 
I think the ancyl should be fired, banned, destroyed, nuked.
They are like a bunch of kids, well kids who are in their 30's who have no discipline. They scream and shout like a bunch of spoilt brats.
next step, the ANC.
I would be so embarrased to admit I was a member of anything remotely connected to the ANC. unless perhaps I was getting a few tenders or was being paid ;)

The problem with Lamola on this, is its just talking... he knows nothing will ever get done, so all it is, is drumming up a bit of popular support, nothing else.

The ANC will score massive brownie points with the electorate when they actually start doing concrete things that involve cleaning up the civil servants.

I respectfully disagree with you, and I'm not embarrassed to be associated with the ANC and ANCYL. I learned a lot while I was an active participant of the YL. And I don't benefit from tenders, and I only get paid by working for the private sector ;). I don't get paid for working overtime though :(, I must start thinking about striking like COSATU :D.

I don't know yet if it's all talk and no action, what I do know is that so far I like what I'm hearing from Lamola. If an ANCYL leader can state on national TV that he's not happy with the way the NYDA is operating, and say other things that most people will agree with then I'll continue to listen to that individual. From what I know about him so far, he's not materialistic and is not motivated by narrow minded things like money. Late last year, my ANCYL branch was once visited by an anti-Malema comrade from Mpumalanga who said he has served under Lamola for a very brief period and spoke highly of him. The same comrade was disappointed that Lamola chose to be Malema's deputy and told us Lamola might have been compromised by money. He might be wrong...

The reason why nothing has been done about Angie is because she is in firm control of the ANCWL, a powerful ally to the ANC. Unfortunately you can't ignore politics, it's a dirty game. Politicians would rather sacrifice the quality of education by keeping an incompetent individual such as Angie than take her head on. Virtually no one in the ANC will speak badly about Angie, not even Sexwale, Motlhanthe or Manuel.

What this country needs are very strong civic organizations. I like what Ramphele is doing, but it's not enough. She resonates more with educated people than with poor people. The TAC has done well to force government to provide aids drugs to the poor. Section 27 has done well with school texts books. There are other organizations that have done well. What is needed as well is an organization that can mobilize poor people who are not getting service delivery to march to a municipality and voice their dissatisfaction. Unfortunately, a bit of violence will help otherwise the media will not write about those marches.

A few months ago I saw a Top Billing episode of Angie Motshega's daughter getting married. It was a lavish wedding with all the glitz and glamour. I felt utter disgust because her daughter probably studied at a functioning model C school and went to varsity to study further and have a bright future, but the daughter's mother is the basic education minister who seems to be intentionally destroying the country's basic education system. I wish a bunch of poor people mobilized and went to disrupt that wedding ceremony so that their voices can be heard. I also wish poor people can go and disrupt the lives of government officials that are not delivering. If a minister is going on holiday to a deserted place, poor people can go to that place and disrupt that particular minister's holiday. Elias Motsoaledi seems to be one of the few dedicated and competent ministers, Angie Motshega is the worst.

More like ANCYL bad breath if you ask me. Kader and the ANC has fsucked up the education system for years and now they want to screw it up even more.
