Article: ANCYL will back Motlanthe

The ANC Youth League will back Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to succeed President Jacob Zuma at the party's congress in Mangaung next year, the Cape Times newspaper reported on Monday. It was also supporting Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula to replace ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe, ANCYL deputy president Ronald Lamola reportedly told youth at the OR Tambo Memorial Lecture at Phatsimang College in Galeshewe.

I've always liked Motlanthe, but this makes me very nervous!

Was he not fingered in the Oil gate saga? (I need to read that.)

They like having dirt on someone. They can use it to force their agenda.

I haven't heard that one, I always thought that he was one of the few who was squeaky clean.

Might be totaly off. I just heard the reports on the news. Will read up on it. If I was wrong sorry :o

Nope.

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe and Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale are refusing to comment on the Oilgate inquiry, despite claims that both have been cleared in the inquiry's report.
He was fingered.
( that sounds so dirty :o )

LOL, just found this as well, from a M&G article.

The National Prosecuting Authority did have compelling evidence of fraud and corruption against Zuma, as the Thabo Mbeki camp insisted, but the case against him was also subject to political influence, as his supporters kept complaining.

Similarly, there is plenty of reason to believe Motlanthe and Sexwale were up to their necks in dodgy crude just before the US-led invasion of Iraq and that the legal process is a politically convenient pretext for Zuma. Certainly, as our reporting this week shows, the two men in question are convinced the decision is motivated by succession considerations and they are hopping mad.

Lovely.

This makes me wonder about the "volkskasbank" thing that they seems to dodge when people wants to investigate it.
( but that is a tinfoil thing and I'll wait for it to come out first :D )

LOL so the ANCYL will back the hyena that will assist them with future plunders. Typical

Now that JZ does not want to cede to their stupid nationalisation demands... ? Typical... But few have gone head-to-head and won against JZ...

Mantashe vs Mbalula.... o please let there be a third choice :(

And I wonder what Motlanthe will be thinking. He does not seem interested to go against JZ at the moment. I could be wrong.

Like R13 said, was there not a Big warning put out regarding the succession debate?

And Zuma's successor will also soon realize that the demands and ideas are hardly in line with reality, and then they'll just back the next person against him. Vicious cycle - until Malema actually comes into real power. Then it's tickets.

So it's claimed. But it may just be because his portfolio encompassed the fingered public servants. Worst it may be is an oversight on his part, or failure to react.

He wasn't in government at the time, and if there's corruption it'll be at party level not for personal gain on his part. Mothlante, you lot seem to get anmesiac is a good ANC cadre, he will not go against the party as was shown in his short tenure as president. The so called pretenders to JZ's crown are all unlikely to make things better than JZ, Tokyo is also a "cadre" and he's been making uncomfortable noises about the "persecution" of Julius Malema.

Gwede is an ideologist, intelligent, and a proponent of the NDR. Mbalula is a part of the mob, and offers nothing in terms of strategy or ideology. He just isn't intelligent enough and therefore dangerous too.

Sad state that we live in when a few cadres get to choose the next South African president. Not once will this succession issue ever address the real needs of the people and who's best to lead from the front - instead it will be a farcical dirt-digging contest. Utterly pathetic by the ANC once again...
