That makes no sense. Durban is a South African city. So according to you, people that live in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Malaysia etc are all Indian? Since they look more or less similar, they must be Indian, regardless of where they were born, their citizenship or anything else?

The term "Indian" has come to refer to more than nationality but also to ethnicity. Much the same as in certain circumstance "African" would indicate black and not necessarily someone born in Africa.
