Article: Better apples on the way?

One of the world's most popular fruits, the apple, has been genetically sequenced, an exploit that could lead to crisper, juicier and more flavoursome harvests, scientists said on Sunday.

I thought the thread title suggested the cleaning out of some of government's "rotten apples". Damn...another day/life I suppose.

genetic engineering?

no thanks, give me a 100% organic apple rather...

You know that genetic engineered stuffs, well most of it, have no adverse health effects?
Infact, wheat and maize is all genetically engineered. So is golden rice.

The grapple is a regular apple watered with some artificial flavouring in it AFAIK. It's interesting to try, but only if you like that artificial grape flavour they put in cheap sweets and drinks.

So it is artificial juice that they put in it? Tasted like that - totally gross. Thought they just botched up the splicing process.

:erm: So very far removed from that 1st mythical apple that was picked!
Yet No mention of the health or nutritional affects of the genetic alterations...

I thought this was in context to politics ... you know, as in 'rotten apples' and 'better apples'.

Give me a Pink Lady to eat any day. Sweet and juicy... yum yum!

Mother nature has spent millions of years perfecting all plants nd animals and these scientists are undoing it all. Look what happened when they tried to make a superior honey bee!!! we ended up with the africanised honey bee better known as te killer bee.
GM foods have been around for many years now and we are yet to see the long term effects of consuming them. Hey perhaps its cancer or obesity??? the big food producers would never tell. They just in it for the money
