Genl. Cele suspended

From twitter:

Board of Inquiry into police lease deal appointed & chaired by Justice Yvonne Mkogoro & General Bheki Cele suspended until then.

General Nhlanhla Mkwanazi appointed as acting National Police Commissioner in the meantime.

Reason for suspension?

They feel there is sufficient evidence to date to warrant a suspension?
Reduce his potential influence on the panel of inquiry?
They also don't need one at this point in time. They're suspending him on full pay pending an investigation...

Double edged sword ... glad that he's actually being investigated but cheesed that he's on full pay and will more than likely get off the charge :(

Suspended with full pay - its like the government are encouraging people to be corrupt

So.... once again SA's top cop is to be investigated for stealing. :(
WTF? Surely there must be one policeman out there who is really suitable to fill this position

This does untold damage to service already desperately in need of an image upgrade

As usual. Just when you think SA governemnt is doing something right they fsck you over.

So the Sunday Tribune was correct after all. All the denials from the "official" spokespersons was just to blow smoke up our arses.

Yip - typical move!
You mean standard procedure...if you are suspended, it must be on full pay. I just wish they'd change it to say in the event you're found guilty then all salaries paid in the period are recoverable from your pension.

RE. Cele suspended, Shiceka replaced.

Public Protector Madonsela found them both guilty of the same offences.
Shiceka fiddled a few hundred thousand and got fired.
Cele fiddled over a billion and was suspended indefinitely with all his salary & perks.

Could the reason for the UNEQUAL treatment have something to do with Cele's long access to SAPS records and his intimate knowledge of Zuma's own wrongdoing?

This Board of Inquiry, if it ever actually sits, is designed by Zuma as a delaying tactic and a way to pay Cele off and keep him quiet.

Ehhh NightJar by SA's Constitution The President can fire ministers and MP's (which the 2 ministers were)...but Cele is a public official and BY LAW cannot be fired without a hearing and MUST be suspended on full pay until a hearing or a commission of inquiry is held and find him guilty.

Hate how South African's always cry wolf before actually understanding the facts.

100% correct. It's the same Law that prevents our own employers from firing us without reason.

This is great news. Now to fire him and bring in Zwandile Petrus.

The FACTS are that SA's Constitution was designed to protect the thieves and crooks who are paid out of the public purse and is constantly being manipulated to that end.

There NEVER WAS ANY INTENTION on the part of the ANC (govt) to penalize any criminal caught with his/her hands in the till and suspension is simply a type of loyalty card, earning benefits.

Suspended officials paid almost R100m
2011-09-22 22:30
Cape Town - Government departments and entities have paid at least R93.6m to senior officials suspended with pay from April 2009 to the present, the Democratic Alliance said on Thursday.

"The actual figure is certainly much higher, but is difficult to ascertain precisely because many departments have not answered the DA's parliamentary questions on this," spokesperson Ena van Schalkwyk said.
