Getting a bill for the water does make one appreciate it.

i have a pool - a great big one at that, and i love wallowing in it.
My garden is green, all year round thanks to watering.

But its not really people like me that are the problem.
It is when the populace of a county is reproducing like flies, like ours, when food, water & power supply are strained as a result of this breeding, problems occur.

We have "Dear Leader" with his multitudes of wives & god alone knows the quantity of the litter of their loins !
How much water do you think that family goes through each month.

People with virtually no resources continue spawning - then we see on tv the poor family without enough water and food. They go on to overgraze and mismanage the land in order to try satisfy their needs leaving the land barren.

So sly, its not going to be golf course's & swimming pools that are going to create a problem in the future, it will be the prevailing "cultural" mentality that does it.

You'd be surprised. You need to exercise to get that first shot off right. Plus there's lots of walking, unless you use the cart.

Until they start banning stuff you like. I don't play golf any more but I don't call for others to stop playing it now. At the end of the day people pay for those courses/estates with their own money.

Err well what ever sport you enjoy I find boring, let's cancel it.

Golf is no longer a rich mans game, you can play at a mashie course for R50. Walking a couple KM clearly has no exercise benifits. Many business deals are done on the golf course..
 
Those green lungs can be parks? Where families can go to and unwind and relax, instead of golf courses that are restricted to a select few.

And the parks are going to be maintained by a "government" that cant afford to maintain the sidewalks anymore? These golf courses bring in more revenue for you and your cadres to plunder, they create jobs for I reckon at least on average 120 PD people, charity that the cANCer is supposed to support but doesn't and SA benefits greatly from tourism in respect of golf.


Well the ANC tries to please every South African despite what people might think. They please a certain section of the population with the Gautrain and the other section of the population with free basic services. I prefer to think long term, water might be available for everyone today but not necessarily in future

The cANCer is only pleasing itself by stealing from the people of South Africa. Water will be available if they get some leaders with brains and plan properly instead of planing to benefit only.

I strongly suggest you only comment on things you know about and being a cANCer supporter you probably can't say too much without letting the cat out the bag.

Water is cheap in this country. Our minister of water affairs and forestry proposed increasing water tariffs so I'm sure both the poor and the rich will appreciate water if her proposal is approved.

You think poor people having many babies is purely a South African phenomena? You think it's worse in this country? Try reading about Bangladesh, and India, then you'll know how big of a problem poor people making lots of babies really is. Obviously the poor mustn't have too many babies, but the rich must stop thinking that just because they pay a lot in tax money then gives them the right to use a precious resource such as water in any way they want.

I disagree...

Water is not cheap in this country. Its not expensive either, but to say its cheap is complete nonsense.

I pay on average R10.50 per kl... there are places on this planet where they are paying 34c per kl...

I see this often, ' the rich', as though it refers to the majority of us.

I don't see myself as part of 'the rich' and I'm sure a large number of members here also just barely make it to the next pay day.

Richer than those poorer than me yes, but every penny counts.

i am not entirely sure as to whether you are being obtuse or not.
However, the topic is locally related.

It is never swimming pools and golf course's that cause the problem for the population.
It is too many feeding off to few resources that causes the problem.
This is an issue the ruling party would never dare to address.
Many a developing country's ill's could be addressed by dealing with this problem, but it is more popular to blame & threaten to take away from the "have's" in order to please the masses - but you already know this.
Closing golf courses & putting an end to private swimming pools will make no difference when it comes to the water needs of an exploding population. It would be of no more benefit than rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.

That's right, boys and girls. The only recreational interaction we need with water is when we all plough into it on new years day at Durban's beaches. The rest - elitist!

You're rich because the Western media constantly broadcasts the BS about rich/poor difference in SA. SA whites are portrayed as spoilt rich plantation owners, while the black majority live in shacks on $2 per day.

Now of course there are rich whites and even a few rich blacks, but by Western standars, most SA whites are not particularly rich. It's just that there are so many poor blacks the balance is off. People then repeat this hype over and over again, about rich whites and poor blacks.
 
Theres this one transition camp in Durban metro which consists of row upon row of prefabbed steel housing. The people here are apparently dirt poor and are in this camp waiting for housing. There are illegal electricity connections that make a bowl of spaghetti look simple.

I saw at least 5 water pipes where the taps had simply been removed and the water flowed constantly. There were also plenty of shebeens and more importantly a satellite dish on just about every wall. These so called poor people need to get their priorities right like not wasting water, not stealing electricity to watch TV and generally loose their sense of entitlement and self pity. Maybe then us so called rich people with swimming pools and who enjoy the odd round of golf will be more sympathetic.
