Article: Biker nabbed clocking 226km/h

A 39-year-old biker, who was arrested clocking 226km/h in a 120km/h zone along the N14 in the North West on Monday, will today appear before the Vryburg Magistrate Court for reckless driving.

Public Safety and Liaison spokesperson, Simon Lesolang Mmope, said the errant biker allegedly sped off when traffic officers stopped him outside Vryburg. Officials say he was at the time headed to Gauteng.

Jeez...the crap people get up to. A bike already a coffin on two wheels....at that speed there wont be anything left to put in a coffin me thinks.

I hate bikes....they noisy and a lot of the time are ridden by arrogant erm...male chickens :-)

Wonder why he was slowing down ?

Me too...

Unrelated, but a biker met his demise not too far off from where I stay. There's a recently completed dual carriage way that always been calling out speedsters to take it on. But they seem to forget about the one strip that passes by a township renowned for drunk pedestrians crossing over the street.

This oke had a pillion, musta been close to 200kph (well it could easily have been reached) when he struck the pedestrian, headed straight for the kerb of the pavement, got thrown off his bike, hit the streetlight and got split in two. His body getting split in two, not the streetlight.

I passed by the accident scene as the bodies were being loaded up at 5am on my way to work Saturday morning.

Like Clarkson says: Its not the speed that kills you. Its coming to a sudden stop that's the problem.

Be careful out there peeps.

If I'm honest, I've taken my car to that speed, once.

It was dumb, and I know that I could have ended up in prison for it, but it was right after I bought it, and I wanted to see what it was capable of.

Just saying, my initial reaction was "What an idiot!" - But we've all done stupid things with our vehicles, seen just what we can get out of them. ( Especially the menfolk, amirite? )

That said, I like to think that if I got a bike, I'd never go that speed.

I can do that speed in my current car...but I won't. I especially won't do it on a bike. One bad pothole and its tickets.

There are some of us on earth who crave speed and adrenaline. A bike is one of the easiest ways to wet your lips. Not all bikers are like that tool though. I know bikers who don't do those speeds and are careful...anyways...bikes are awesome!

120 or 220 - same result for the biker to be honest.

Must've been a pretty good feeling getting to that speed! I wonder if there are any closed testing roads open to bikers/cars to go any speed they like? The Toyota test track in KZN comes to mind as the perfect setup, though that is not open to the public afaik.

ODI raceway has 1km drags on occasion. My car reached 216, a skyline reached 298km/h (over 1km!)

yeah that?

I maxed my bike out at 220, wont do it again. On her!

Friend of mine had a modified CBR1000. Took it to 300 on the N1.... mind you, he only did that once. At 300 it has an electronic cut-out, so in short, once you pass 299, the fuel cuts off. A biker will know what happens at speed when you just leave the accelerator.

One bad pothole and its tickets.
That's perhaps the point. But then you could slip in the shower and crack your head open. Accidents, deadly ones, waiting to happen all around us.

Bikers, thrifty to the last.

Poor caged monkeys, always envying those roaming free.

How long before someone says it's cool and safe to drive a bike at that speed.
Safe? Has anyone ever claimed it is safe to travel at that speed on a motorcycle?

:D

That is the point of a bike isn't it? :D :D It has little to do with being safe..

Most superbikes will do that speed in a heartbeat.
If the road is clear of other vehicles and pedestrians I don't see why not
He's only risking his own life in such a situation.

If in built up area - it's a no-no
