how is that news. We have 4 in my department that paid for theirs. One cant drive for shyte. Doesn't even know where the clutch is.

Driving Test Bribery Widespread
Nearly three in five young South Africans with a driver's licence claim to know people who paid bribes to pass their tests, according to a survey released on Wednesday.
It found that 59 percent of licensed respondents claimed to know people who bribed to get their licences. Thirty percent said they did not know anyone who bribed, and 11 percent were unsure.
The cellphone survey by Pondering Panda was conducted among 2768 people aged between 18 and 34. According to the survey bribery occurred mostly in Limpopo, where 77 percent of respondents claimed to know people who bribed, and in the Eastern Cape, with 70 percent.
Western Cape respondents were least likely to make the claim, with 49 percent saying they knew someone who had bribed their way to obtaining a licence.
Thirty percent of total licensed respondents said long waiting times were the main reason for bribery, while 28 percent said traffic officials would fail applicants if they did not receive money.
Twenty-two percent said the test itself was too difficult, and this resulted in bribery.
Eighty-one percent of all respondents -- licensed and not -- believed there was corruption in traffic departments.
Pondering Panda spokeswoman Shirley Wakefield said the survey showed bribery and corruption were endemic in traffic departments.
"The fact that the majority of young drivers claim to know someone who has obtained their driver's licence through bribery should be very worrying to the government," she said.
"South Africa's roads are already among the most dangerous in the world, and new drivers who have not passed their test are only making the situation worse."

Yeah, I did my license test 3 times. The third time I failed for "driving too slow" - I was driving 50 in a 60 zone. Thought it was good enough. So I decided that I am legal if I drive fast - never tried it again. If anything it makes me more alert on the road, looking out for roadblocks and such, I have avoided several accidents by being over alert.
So there's me driving people safely around with no **** license; and then there are the younger kids with new cars that mysteriously pass their licenses first time and crash their cars after 1 week - 8 weeks.
I don't believe in this absurd system in place, and I will not support it.

+1. I know of many people that are capable drivers that got failed for stupid little things. Besides who has the money to make an appointment plus hire a driving instructor's car every time they fail you.

Don't forget the triple standards. They are killer. My girlfriend rolled her car a little in her test. The driving instructor said, "shhh, I didn't see that.".
Put any bright 18yr old as minister of the department and the system will improve.
There is just too much incentive for fraud at the moment.

lol. I heard about these, they pay someone from the department to pass to find out it was a scam and fail in any case.
Had this when I renewed my license. People paid for other people to "queue" for them, only to have to stand in the queue

You do of course know what the insurance implications are when you hit a pedestrian and/or another vehicle and kill or hurt the occupants? Their insurance will not pay out and you will have to pay for their injuries, damages etc. Is it not a tad irresponsible?
