South Africa's best-managed municipalities are in Gauteng and the Western Cape, according to a study released on Wednesday.

"Western Cape and Gauteng municipalities remain typically the best managed and most competitive in a year ridden with protests," Municipal IQ said in a statement releasing its Municipal Productivity Index (MPI) and Compliance and Governance Index (CGI).

I must say, after moving to Cape Town, I've been so amazed by the number of municipal staff so committed to doing a good job. I left Joburg a year ago and they still haven't sorted out my old rates issues.

Cape Town municipality cares about the city. They give high prioritisation to the city and suburbs in close vicinity, the suburbs on the outskirts like Helderberg needs to beg.

It was only a couple years ago that Helderberg was under its own municipality in its own capacity. Helderberg integrated with Cape Town, since then general maintenance went downhill, this includes drainage, recreational (sport clubs, parks etc.), roads etc. They however did up their game with general cleaning. Helderberg includes Macassar up to where Rooi Els is under The Overstrand municipality. They need to care.

Best approach is make a fire under the ward councillor for the area/s....it is not if there is no funds allocated/available for said maintenances/upgrades...
