Actually, many "animal rights people" and "many vegans" see animals as sentient, learning and capable of experiencing pain and that they should therefore should be defended against cruelty and unnecessary harm.
This persistent straw-man argument of yours in which you attempt to twist a very valid sentiment into balderdash hysteria is extremely bizarre. I can only imagine someone stepped on your toes at some point and hurt your feelings.
The only "lunatics", to my mind, are people who derive some sort of pleasure out of killing animals for "sport" and those who don't spare a thought for where their food comes from and what kind of practises they are either wittingly or unwittingly supporting.
Yeah, many animal rights people and many vegans see animals as "persons". Which is why they often refer to eating meat as 'murder'. Its Lunaticville.
I don't really care about this. Call me ape-athetic.

I love eating slaughtered cow flesh. Medium rare with chips please. All these bleeding hearts can go to hell. A monkey is a monkey. If one monkey could put another in a cage, it would gladly do it. It's the way of the world.

Hunting purely for sport is wrong imo. I have no problem if you are going to eat what you have hunted though.Great apes, and all other self-aware animals, should have a right to life. Those animals that aren't, don't. Those animals however should still have a right not to suffer, but if you really wanted to you should always be able to hunt them for sport / etcetera.

and one day if people in the amazon decide to eat you, we shouldn't cry for you?![]()
There exists no existential reason for the animal's survival - so why should killing it be a taboo?Hunting purely for sport is wrong imo.
I'm firmly of the opinion that I'm as much meat as any other animal. Should a lion / other predator manage to hunt me down, bon apetit to it.
